WiFi is Wi Fi and the speed is the system---try getting the router close and check the speed of the service with a computer (free). If you are paying for service a call to your provider might be helpful.

SOURCE: Need help with Wifi Connection with COMPAQ EVO N610C LAPTOP

First you will need a router which will enable you to create a wireless network for your internet connection. I recommend, if you're purchasing online, to use Tigerdirect. Then you would need a USB wireless adapter for your laptop which will enable it to communicate with the wireless router and establish an internet connection.
Below are some links for the most affordable and best rated products you need.

I want to no how to fix the internet connection. It is very lagging and does our every minute

Not enough information are you using wireless internet connection via a wi fi router via a broadband connection like DSL or Cable. Your play station may be too far way from it to get a reliable signal. you may need a wi fi repeater or a direct ethernet cable from your router to your play station. I am testing out a powerline ethernet connection this is another way to connect ethernet. Direct 100 Mb/s cable is the best as wireless and powerlines is slower (note1). You may have a slow internet connection test it by goggling for " test download speed " .

(note 1) there is a faster wireless technology currently being sold but the game station would not be able to utilise it.

Internet connection speeds much slower when LAN is routed through a router as opposed to directly linked to the modem?

Depending on the Wireless device, speeds differ with the protocol a bit. A cable/hardwire connection will always be a faster. I would not get to hung up on speed test software, there are many factors when using different one's , your speed will vary wildly, form one to another. Your dealing with ALL the outside ISP equipment you have no control over. If you go to 10 different "Speed Test" software websites, you will get 10 different Uploads speeds, and 10 different Download speeds. Most of this is due to Outside equipment. You just may be Obsessing over something you can't control, but I could be wrong. Maybe your ISP is "throttling" your signal? http://www.pcworld.com/article/158552/check_ISP_speeds.html

Slow upload speed

It is usual that the internet speed differs when connected to a modem and a router. You have many possibilities to get signal affected while connected through a router.
Anyway you can try with these basic steps to get a better connection through router,
1.) Reset the wireless router by using the power switch on it or by unplugging it and plugging it back in.
2.)Place the wireless router in an ideal location. The higher it is, the better, but don't put it near metal objects.
3.)Get as close as possible to the router with whatever device you're trying to connect.
4.)Keep the router and your connecting device away from other electronics. You should especially keep away from phones, fax machines and microwaves. etc.,
5.)Adjust the Wifi antenna if it has one.
6.)Change the router's channel, especially if other wireless routers are nearby.
Following these steps would give you stable internet connection and also increased speed in connection. You can check your internet speed from www.ScanMySpeed.com before and after performing these steps.

could be just different wifi chipsets. these days also you may have 2.4/5ghz(802.11ac) what router do you have? most routers are now DUAL SIGNAL and have a 2nd wifi signal called GUEST generally this is for older slower WEP based security for old devices(which is what you have) as aspire one 722 is 802.11 b/g/N but not 5ghz and not ac. so its slow cos the router probably keeps negotiating for faster connection but your aspire cant do it and doesnt even know about it. I have installed the moto surfboard 6580. The lan is speed testing on average 52-55mbps on comcast extreme 50, however, my wireless network will only give me 25mbps. I've tried every configuration that I...

sbg6580 or what? you failed to use real model.

first off wired Ethernet is always faster.WAN (and the web actual)
say wifi not wireless there are many wireless and wifi is but 1.
there are 2 speeds, raw and real (throughput) latter is real.
and is bits per second not BYTES.
The 802.11a and 802.11g networks usually run no faster than 20 Mbps..
the answer is simple
one or both wifi devices is slow
either or both.
the speed will based on the slowest one, called band width bottle-necking.. just like driving a car really , traffic and narrow roads are slower. or are gravel roads, see?
so buy new wifi upgrades wifi 5 or 6, , 802.11AC or AX
yours is old and slow
and more money always buys faster cars or better roads or wifi.
speed costs and is not free.
read here first
but gee upgrades are the answer. but no hardware told yet

now just the modem/router your SB
Wi-Fi N300 2.4Ghz + N300 5GHz Dual Band Router. The IEEE 802.11 Standard on Wireless LANs (Revision B, Revision G, and Revision N
so if he PC is not N or is not dual bad it can not do N speeds
or is B or G speed now)
100 Mbps is max speed on "N" 11N
and must be close to the router and both bands enabled on both ends and no huge traffic on those bands in your home or IOT there or in the hood (crowded apartments omg bad)
your router is not junk, but most old PCs are unless upgraded.
and lots of IOT things are 1 band and slow.
no brink or concrete walls from PC to router.
wifi is radio and does not link dense obstruction LINE OF SIGHT.

When using different wireless machines at same time router seems to freeze. Iphone/itouch/laptops nt and xp. Any ideas

Maybe the types of wifi radio waves that your D-Link wifi Ruoter brodcast for an internet connection aren't copatible with some faster or newer divices because some routers use wireless-G waves which is usualy slower than what most of those devices of yours are able to recieve and proccess at and isin't ideal for multi tasking because they begin to slowdown with more than one machine connected because of it's slower signal bradcasting speed. While Wireless-b is alot like Wireless-G but it is usually suposedly considered to surf the web at least 5X faster speeds at least that's what I've heard about it.
I would'nt really know about wireless-b because I have had no reason to buy a Wireless-b nor the reason to use one so i guess I don't really need one yet for now.

Well I hope I have given you some kind of help here but if I did not the I apologize for wasting so much of your time.I hope you figure out your peculiar wireless predicerment sooner or later.

My hp laptop has slowed to dialup speed. How can check to see if its the directv modem, netgear router or laptop?

There are two common reasons that a pc slows, 1, if you have downloaded several things to your PC ie: programs, games, music, and/or pitures. This eats memery, even if you dont run them at the same time. Solution upgrade you memery stick. 2, You have regestry issues, ez to fix just buy or download a reg fix program. I like RegCure my self. How ever I see that you have a satilite internet connection? Is this correct? The problem with satilite is that it is faster than dialup, but not by much, yet still much slower than DSL. or Cable and connection and speed is affected by weather. If satilite is all you can get in your location then try one or both solutions. My suggestion is to get a better internet provider first, DSL if Cable is not available. Good Luck hope this is helpfull.

I have dialup. i can't download or playback music

Check with your local ISP (Internet Subscription Provider) if they have a wireless modem/router so you can connect to the internet wirelessly.

They will be the one to configure your internet settings.

Range on the wifi

Need more info, but it could be a number of things. Many thing affect your wireless speed:

-Walls
-Distance
-Other wireless devices, or devices that emit radiation (Microwaves, cordless phones, baby monitors and etc.)

Other things could be:
-your computer is just plain slow
-there are too many people connected to the wireless at the same time
-your internet connection is slow either in general, or just temporarily

More advanced (and unlikely) reasons:
-your network adapter has been forced to operate at a slower speed
-your router is set to operate at a slower speed in its configurations

My IMAC ethernet connection to my wrt54G is much slower than wifi

Then you have your settings wrong, as I have the same setup for many years. The setup page of your router should be set basically default, it should be all set to auto ip and other than your dns there should not be anything else to set. I have 3 wireless and two wired devices and all of the computers .And the speed is constant,,something is wrong with your settings, if you can take a screenshot by opening the router homepage and hitting the print screen button on your keyboard, you can then hit paste on here and it will past the entire thing on here to examine
