Once you get it working, run a decent AntiVirus programme, (Norton etc), then run CHKDSK/F from the search bar then download IObit.com and asc-setup. Asc is free and works to clean your registry properly. If you can't boot try safe mode and run from there. That should fix you power problem unless it is the switch.
When you say vista ultimate was installed, do you mean you installed it yourself?
Is the COA on the bottom of the laptop for Vista Ultimate?
If the COA is not for ultimate( usually home or premium) then the copy of Windows re installed may not be genuine.
If all is well and it is a genuine copy then a call to microsoft is your only option(IF it is a retail copy)
If it is an OEM copy of windows you may have to pay for a new key
Vista Home premium drivers will work perfectly with Windows Vista Ultimate. When installing Vaio event service and Vaio Control center make sure that you run setup file as administrator. Right-click the setup file and select option "run as administrator". By reinstalling utilities this way they will work perfectly well
The product key on the label on the bottom of the laptop will only work for the version of Windows that was installed on that laptop.
You can purchase an upgrade Windows Vista Ultimate and to use in conjunction with the existing Vista Home Premium.
Miscrosoft has a Vista tool to determine if your machine can run Vista. I suggest you go one step farther and make sure that all the drivers you need are on their web site and listed as for Vista. DO NOT flash the Bios to make the machine run Vista.
You will need to download the driver for your webcam from the manufacturers website. For most webcams xp didn't require a driver but vista needs a driver to make the webcam operational. Hope this helps & please rate this solution fixya. Thanks.
this is another typical vista programme compatibilty problem, even though certain drivers are provided they still don't worl well, when you run the programmes run them in XP sevice pack 2 mode, they may work better
