No sound Hi, the sound on my 6000 quit working. When using the sound controls I get the little window but sound is coming out. I checked the device manager and it does not show a sound device installed. All that is shows is two audio codecs and one legacy audio driver. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

The drivers you mention are related to your sound drivers to they are installed. Run this programme to see if there is a driver problem, click Start>Run then type 'dxdiag' and hit enter. It could be the motherboard sound chip thats failed.

It just maybe that your drivers are corrupt, go to the link below and download audio drivers and install again.

Disable motherboard sound card

If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7. right click on the little speaker icon on the right hand side of the task bar. in the menu, click on "Playback devices". In the window that opens, click on the USB sound device, whatever it is called, and click on "Set Default". That should do it. if the USB device does not show up, then you have bigger problems than you think.

It is probably possible to completely disable the on-board sound from the bios but this is not necessary.

If you are using Windows XP go to the following link and follow the instructions.

How to unmute laptop sounds. Its mute and i am not able to unmute it?

  1. Click START
  2. click CONTROL PANEL
  3. click SOUNDS and AUDIO DEVICES
  4. Look at the box labelled SOUND RECORDING - if the DEFAULT DEVICE is listed as WAVE DEVICE (may have some letters and or numbers in front of the words WAVE DEVICE - they are only the name of the device) go to step 6 otherwise click the little downward arrow at the right hand end of the DEFAULT DEVICE box. Scroll down the pop-up list to WAVE DEVICE and click on it.
  5. click VOLUME in the SOUND RECORDING box
  6. A window will open entitled 'Recording Control'
  7. Put a tick (check-mark) in the little white box under the heading of MICROPHONE and make sure the Volume slider is at the top of the scale.
  8. Close the window to go back to the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties Window.
  9. If you also want to hear what you are saying into the microphone over your own loud-speakers / headphones click on the VOLUME button in the SOUND PLAYBACK box.
  10. A VOLUME CONTROL window will open. If MICROPHONE is in the list of sound sources go to step 11 otherwise click OPTION on the tool-bar at the top right of the VOLUME CONTROL window. Then click PROPERTIES. With a little green dot in the PLAYBACK box look where it says 'Show the following volume controls' - place a check-mark against microphone and then click OK
  11. In the VOLUME CONTROL window remove any check-mark from the MUTE box under the MICROPHONE heading and also make sure that the MUTE ALL box (bottom left) is also un-checked.
  12. Close the VOLUME CONTROL window. Press OK to close the Sounds and Audio Devices window and exit CONTROL PANEL
  13. That should be it but if you are using MSN Messenger / Skype or other similar program you will need to start that program and click on the TOOLS button followed by SOUNDS and TEST AUDIO - follow screen prompts thereafter.

My dvd r/rw drive does not work. it sounds like it is reading cds and dvds but nothing happens.

try to boot from some bootable cd/dvd (eg. windows cd) to check if it isn't software problem, if it won't boot, try to clean laser lens using small paintbrush and little alcohol. If it is only software problem, go to control panel > system > device manager and uninstall all cd drives and restart computer

Can i use lifechat zx-6000 to play and listen to music played by GOM player?

Yea, you can, you need to co to control panel and under sounds set the 360 head set control which will be your microsoft wireless control to default....but the sound is crapy..it seems that the manufacturers never designed this device for that kinda sound, only those who are talking to you with another mic...so i suggest sticking with your speakers or a good set of ear phones

No audio

Hi

Quite likely, drivers for the audio controller is missing/not installed.

You did not give any info on the Operating System you installed and the sound card in question; Onboard or PCI Sound Card. I am assuming you have Windows XP or 2000 and using the builtin/onboard sound controller.

If this is correct, you will need to download and install ADI Onboard Sound Driver (Windows 2000/XP) - http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R94481.EXE

Let me know how you get on

Mike
