Plugging a line level audio into a composite video output should not damage anything, but you should hear static. Double check your wiring with the manual. The problem is probably in the setup menu.

System keeps shorting out think its somewhere in the speaker jacks

Only one of us can do the actual testing of the hypothesis.

Disconnect one speaker, test; repeat for remaining speakers; follow the symptom's disappearance.

Do you think the powered subwoofer itself might have a power problem? Check its cord.

Subwoofer.......

Please check your model number, I can not find it on the JVC service website.

This is a powered sub-woofer I think. You need to have a thick black cord that connects the sub to the head unit. Then the satellite speakers get connected to the speaker jacks on the sub-woofer box. The sub-woofer should also be plugged into an A/C outlet on the wall.

The speaker outputs are labeled right there where you connect the speaker wires. You should see a red and black connector for each speaker and they are labeled "front right" "front left" "center" "rear right" "rear left".

If you do not have the thick black cord you need to connect the head unit with the sub-woofer, you can not use this system.

If you look at the head unit and give me the model number on it, I may be able to find the part you need. But I must have a good model number to work with, preferably from the head unit.

No sound from speakers.

Hi...
On some stereo gear the headphone jack interrupts the speaker connection when the headphones are in. you "might" have something broken in the headphone jack which is keeping the speakers from turning on.
Is there a MUTE switch on the unit?
Or an "External speaker off" thingy in the menu?

Watching T.V. with speakers

Component 1 on the TV is probably an input, not an audio output. You need to find out if your TV has audio output jacks.
If I'm mistaken, and you are using audio output jacks from the TV, then you just need to press FUNCTION on your remote until the LCD display says "TV/VCR".

Display showing "F61" some electricity failure

you have a problem with speaker cords:-
1-make marks with tape or any marker pen in all speaker cords(left-right-sub- front-rear).
2-after marking remove all speaker cords.
3-insert them one by one until f61 appear.
4-the cord that connected and make the trouble is bad please change it with new one.

if it has red/white RCA style inputs on the back you can just buy a cord that will plug into the headphone of your MP3 and into the RCA jacks on the stereo.
