Question about GE (PSS26MSRSS) Side by Side Refrigerator

2 Answers

My GE Profile PSS26MSTSS is not keeping food cold.

My GE Profile PSS26MSTSS side by side freezer and refrigerator got really hot, about 15 degrees on freezer side and 58 degrees on refrigerator side. Everything thawed out and I had to remove it. The back of the freezer frosted up. The freezer did not make ice all day either before this happened. Then overnight it seemed to start making ice and cool down again. It has been okay for about four days now. This happened once before but not as bad. I have had this refrigertor for a year and a half and it is out of warranty. Do you know what the problem could be? Thanks

My GE fridge (14 years old) is not getting cold enough(freezer running between 10-15 degrees F & fridge is running between 50-57 degrees). Is there troubleshooting I can do or is the compressor on the way out?

My side by refridgerator is about 4 years old. One day I noticed it was warming up on the freezer side and was making ice. On the back of the freezer ice was building up(this is a frost free refridgerator). I clean it out and defrosted it and it stated working again. About a week later it did the same thing and is not making ice or freezing. Does the compressor need to be replaced?

This is a shot in the dark but.. what you are describing is pretty common problem for refrigerator units used in garages during the winter. Where is yours located?

thats because when you open the door ALL the cold air rushes out.(the bins stop this effect)use a thermometer in the middle bin and adjust the running temp accordingly, this will also stop your lettuce from freezing.

The freezer section of my refrigerator flucuates in temperature. It can go from 0 degrees to 4 - 6 degrees. What causes this?

The length and frequency of the defrost cycle is determined by the control-board computer. It depends on the time of the doors being open, outside temperature, temperature and amount of food inside.

others have said that it is 'normal' for theirs to go up or down 15 degrees.

Hi, this problem is going to be with the running thermostat2.gif (cold Control). It has gone bad and stays open which in turn will keep the compressor running continually and will cause the fridge2.gif to get colder and freeze food. It can normally be located in the control panel inside the fridge (it is the control that has wires, the other is the damper). Locate the thermostat and replace it. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to comment again. Good Luck!! Mike
