The drum of the washer has a bad damp odour in it that we can't get rid of it. Could something be stuck in the drum somewhere?

The rubber seals in the washer around the door will mildew over time and cause the odor. Clean the rubber parts well inside and out and from now on leave the washer door open after use so the water can evaporate. This will prevent further mildewing.

Have new lg5270cw washer. It was delivered 5 says ago. I smell electrical or rubber burning. It is direct drive. What's causing it?

Front loading washers have the washtub suspended on springs and also contain a large damping weight. For the purposes of transportation so no damage will be caused, washers are usually fitted with a means of locking the suspension system. Sometimes these are substantial plastic plugs and sometimes brackets of various types are used. These must be removed before the washer is used as directed by the instruction manual.
Perhaps the delivery guys didn't remove them or perhaps they caused some problem during the removal?

The only thing I can think of. I suggest you check. Certainly if the odour persists the service engineer should be called out. As it it brand new there should be no charge.

Nice, or not nice?

To get rid of the mildew odor, run an empty machine on the hottest setting with bleach or Affresh ($8, homedepot.com), a cleaner that deodorizes a washer's interior. And after each load of laundry, leave the door ajar to allow the interior to dry.

Water in drum

The swish water sound that you hear in the drum is normal. There is some liquid in the drum for balancing. The washer doesnt use that liquid for laundry. The odor smell - you can get rid of it by cleaning your washer. Run empty cycle with bleach and hot water at least once a month. Also use washer cleaner - Tide recommended for a nice cleaner smell. You can get it from any supermarket.

Samsung Front Load washer has odour

IMPORTANT: Read thoroughly. DO NOT add detergent or other laundry products to this cycle.
1. Remove all items from the washer.
2. Open the dispenser drawer and 2/3 cup (160 mL) of liquid chlorine bleach to the bleach compartment. DO NOT use more than 2/3 cup (160mL) of bleach per cycle as this will lead to product damage.
3. Close the washer door and dispenser drawer.
4. Select the Clean Washer cycle or a full wash cotton 104 F wash (40 C). DO NOT use any higher temperature as this will cause unnecessary fumes
5. Press Start and allow cycle to complete.
6. If the bad odour persists, repeat the procedure 1 or 2 more times. This may be necessary if this is the first time you have run this cycle.
7. After the cycle is complete, leave the door open slightly to allow ventilation and drying of the washer interior.
8. Repeat the cleaning procedure monthly.
To maintain the washer freshness:
1. Use only HE High Efficiency detergent.
2. Leave the door open after each cycle to for better ventilation and drying of the washer interior.
3. Use warm / hot water in your machine unless the fabric you are washing requires cold.
4. Use the correct amount of fabric softener.
5. If your laundry room is damp, use a dehumidifier.
6. Clean the door seal of visible residue.

Musty smell, but can't tell from where

I have the same problem with a 3 month old ge front loading washer.after 1 month it started off smelling musty..I thought it was my imagination, now at 3 months old our clothes smell so bad I think we might just have to buy new clothes! everytime I wash a load the clothes smell worse and now you can even smell it just walking into our closet 2 floors up. A new washing washing machine should NOT be doing this! so far leaving the door open in between washes has helped a little but I plan on tipping it back and finding the hidden filter today. Isn't it lovely that they don't mention a filter that needs monthly cleaning or it's location in the manuals?!
