Question about Kenmore Elite HE4 Electric Dryer

2 Answers

Dryer won't start when press button. If you hold it, it runs.

When I hold the button, it will run....but if you don't hold it, it doesn't run. We replaced the computer board, and it didn't help. Any thoughts?

Actually, that is what the guy at the shop said. He was 90% sure that was the problem and we replaced it. It worked for about 5 minutes. Than the switch wouldn't stay on again unless we held it (or put something heavy on it to hold it down which is what we are doing now.) It heats fine...it's just the switch. The model number is 110.64982300 Kenmore electric dryer. Any other thoughts?

Our 15 year old Kenmore elite electric dryer has been doing the same thing- last night it would only stay on if you held it, now this morning, it works fine

It seems like it may be the protection overheating as it seemend very hot last nbight-- I also noticed the outside vent was blocked by link against a screen

Should I replace or see if it goes on another few years?

I seem to have the same problem, but it's not this exact dryer. It's a Kenmore (110.C60952990). I hold the start button and it runs ... let go of the start button and it stops.

same exact problem, and same exact dryer, only when I held the button, the dryer did not get hot, just cold air. My cmputer board seems to have been "burned" by a bad resistor...there are burnt marks by one of the resistors

The problem could be the centrifugal switch in the motor. In the normal operation this switch is open when off and closes after the motor reaches 80% or better running speed. The "start" switch is a momentary switch. and the centrifugal switch is parallel to the momentary switch. After the motor centrifugal switch is made it continues to run until the door, timer, or a safety switch opens the circuit. Now all this is assuming there isn't something different in your circuitry but it is a basics of how it starts and runs.

The reason for the centrifugal switch is that it also allows the power from one side of the circuit to proceed to the motor and elements. If your using the start switch instead all this power has to transfer from these contacts to the rest of the circuits. they are most likely rated a few amps under the centrifugal start switch and could burn out the start switch on top

Hope this helps everyone please rate me accordingly and GOOD LUCK!

I have a whirlpool duet gas dryer model ggw9200lw1. when i press the start button it clicks once but wont run.

First, check the door switch. Push and release it by hand and you should hear a click. If no sound, replace the door switch with this part.
If the switch is ok, press the cancel button on the machine. Then do this. press and hold the start button for 2 seconds then release wait 2 seconds and press and hold again for 2 seconds continue this pattern until the dryer goes into test mode. You will see all the lights on the control light up. press each button on the control one at a time 3 times each. (Do not press the cancel button) until the dryer begins to run. When the dryer starts to run then press the cancel button. Then your machine should function properly.

My dryer won,t start. When you set the timer and turned the starter on you hear a sound that seems it will run but when you let go the starter it just won/t run

You have a bad motor. There should be a button you can press to make your dryer go while the door is open. Hold that and push the button in and then turn the drum. if that doesn't make it go then it is your motor

Press start button and dryshuts off when start button is released

There is a switch assembly on the motor that activates when the motor is running. Centrifugal switch. It keeps it running when you release the switch. That is where to start. Eric

there is a holding contact at the motor wiring, check the schematics and trace that holding contact. it should hold the motor running as soon as it starts.

Kenmore 73954 : Only runs when the START button is continuously pressed

The start button starts the motor heater and energizes a relay that latches closed to keep the motor and heater running untill the timer switch or door switch cut the power to the relay and the relay opens.
The latching relay has failed or disconnected
if all the cables are attached to the relay
replace relay
not an expensive item, usualoly good for 10years
dryer circuits look like this, the start switch and relay are drawn just to the right of the motor, this diagram has no relevance to the physical position of the parts
