Re: error on the laptop
This must be a programme you use to back up any files everytime you shut down.
But it seems as if the programme cannot find the correct partition to save the file to.
See if there is anything on your startup menu (Start>Run> then type msconfig)that is running in the background ready to save when you powerdown.

Make sure your hard disk has enough space. Most often when the error massage comes it will tell you how much free space is required to install the game look keenly and know how much space is required then either move all media files mainly video files especially downloaded in the download folder to an alternative partition and only leave windows and installed program on Local Disk C. Other wise if your hard disk capacity is very small then am afraid that you will have to get a bigger hard disk.
Most newer laptops now come without a recovery disk because the recovery is usually on the hard disk partition D.If you check yours and it has the partition for recovery, you can still burn this partition into a DVD media because the partition are usually large, incase something happens to your laptop recovery, you still have your recovery on your DVD MEDIA.
Go to start>computer and check.
press delete during boot up process enter BIOS then use arrow keys to optimised defaults/safe mode press esc then f10 save to cmos to reboot or f1 for general help then type chkdsk/f which willautomatcally fix any corrupted files hope this helps good luck
make sure you have no usb pen drives, floppy disks, or cdroms inserted then switch on the machine.
If you still get the same error then your hard disk drive has malfunctioned or corrupted.
If you have a restore cd or DVD insert this and restart the machine you may get an error message stating your hard disk drive is not found if it has malfunctioned.
The quickest solution here would be to put the hard drive into a computer that has Windows already running, and format it through the operating system itself. I've run into this problem a few times, and when another computer wasn't available I would use a Linux boot disk to clear out all my partition tables, then I would load up with Windows XP and tell it to write a new NTFS partition. Do NOT select the 'quick format' option, you'll have to wait through the long one.
The Error 0270 means you must replace the lithium coin cell battery. Google "Thinkpad (your model) support" and read the manuals for instructions.
With a new battery installed, boot into Setup by pressing the F! key. Reset the clock and verify that the hard drive is recognised.
Reboot, all might be OK. If not, download and run IBM's free PC-Doctor utility to test the machine. If all is OK, I suspect the hard drive was stripped and an operating system must be installed. Verify this with a DOS boot floppy. Run FDISK to view your partitions.
