Question about Kenmore Dryers

Strange smell from electric dryer

There is a strange smell coming from my mother's dryer when it is running. It is a 2000 model 80 Kenmore. To me , it kinda smells like lint is real hot. Is it possible that there is lint around or near the heating element? I checked the vent line and it is clean. It doesn't smell electrical to me , more like a blanket that got too hot.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks ,
Larry

If this is a new element, this is normal until it has been used a few cycles. Use it and watch it carefully for a while. If it continues have a competent person to take the rear panel off and check for burnt wires or lint inside the unit.

Disconnect the dryer from your vent completely,. pull dryer out 3 ft. from wall and test to see if the smell continues, You have to test for a few minutes to clear out any burning lint from vent restrictions. If the smell hoes away then you know you have venting problems. Also check on the grate that covers the element( the part you look through when you see the orange glow from the element) sometimes plastic or clothing burns onto this grate and needs to be cleaned off. I the smell remains, you will have to tear down the dryer to see if you can find the cause of the smell.

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly.
Here is the video on how to replace the blower wheel. You only need to see how to gain access. The top panel AND the front panel have to be removed to get to the area you need to access so you can remove the stuck paper. You should NOT have to remove the belt and drum to get your stuck paper out. Video link below:

If you still have problems you can download this Job Aid manual on how to gain access:

I had the same problem once and I had a leak behind the wall, I fixed the leak but still smelled it for a while. I had a small opening in the wall, so I sealed up the hole with that expanding spray filler and it went away
I think the smell is moisture mixed with lint setting on soaked

hope this helps

I have a Kenmore 80 series dryer(118.72812101).

You may have something inside the workings of the dryer which has shorted out the heater coil. this could be the source of the noise as well. you need to remove the cabinet to access this, yet be careful as the drum will fall out on you in process. You can get a new coil from an appliance part store in your area. Take the dryer apart before buying this tho, so you don't waste your money on the off chance that this isn't the trouble. you will need make model and serial number from unit so they can match up the proper coil for you. Make note of how the belt is placed and routed for proper replacement when reassembling. Also make note of 'drum rollers' condition, as this could be some of the noise also.
Best to you, hope it works out

Kenmore dryer...How to remove toe panel to clean lint out.

Insert a putty knife into the seam where it meets the front panel about 2 inches in from each side. There is a small retainer clip that you will need top depress in order for the panel to release. If you go to searspartsdirect.com and enter your model number, you can find a helpful illustration under the "Cabinet" heading. The clips I mention are listed as item 46 just ot give you a perspective. I would also strongly recommend that you UNPLUG the dryer before cleaning the interior cabinet. There are live voltages present even with the dryer turned off. Particulary around the heating circuits. I hope you find this information helpful.

Bunning smell.

Is it an electrical smell or a rubber type smell. If there is no smoke, it could be that the belt is slipping and causing a smell. If it is the motor, usually it would smoke, or at least quit running and making strange noises.
