Question about Kenwood VR-506 Receiver

Open Question

Optical Input I need help with the Optical Input on my Kenwood VR-506. I bought a PS3 and can't get any sound out of the Optical Input. I have changed all the output settings on the PS3 to Optical, but nothing plays through the receiver. It works fine with the analog settings. I also tried the optical cable with a DVD player and can't get it to work from there either. What are the proper settings on the receiver to get the Optical Input to work properly? thanks,

I have tried twice now to get the optical cable to work with 2 different DVD players and have not been successful in getting the optical cable to work. It is almost like the input is there for show, but really the received cannot accept an optical cable hook-up.

SOURCE: kenwood vr-5900 no sound

Check you settings on the receiver. get into the menu of the unit and check the "Audio" settings. if you can choose by specific input, select "Digital" otherwise, select "Auto" that should correct the problem. If you still have a problem, post a comment and I can help you troubleshoot some more.

How do I connect my Kenwood VR-715 surround sound system, Dish Network receiver, and HD LCD TV together so the surround sound works? Can't figure out what goes in the input, the order of the connections or...

Hello,
The best way to do this is to connect you dish network receiver is directly to the tv. Try to use the best video type possible. HDMI is the best, next is component and lastly is composite. This will take care of the video portion. Next, connect digital audio output to the Kenwood Receiver. I dont know what type of a digital audio output your dish box has, but your kenwood receiver has both optical and coaxial inputs so you should be fine there. Once you have both audio and video wired, change the inputs on both your tv and kenwood receiver to the inputs you are connected to. You might need to set up the kenwood to tell it that your running digital audio to it in the setup menus. Hopefully this helps, let me know if you need any clarification.
Good Luck

As long as it doesn't blow any fuses, check the solder connections around the output stage. Sometimes they heat-up and become cold connections - re-apply solder by heating thoroughly to repair the junction.

I have a ps3 and a samsung flatscreen im using an hdmi cable is there anyway to run the sound through my kenwood vr 305 since it doesnt have a hdmi input

Connect cables from your flatscreen TV (or monitor?) to the receiver's audio input jacks. These could be two RCA, white and red, or Digital (one single RCA cable), or optical, if both the flatscreen and the receiver have such connector. Make sure you select the correct audio input on the receiver to amplfy the sound from the game/movie/etc.
If successful, try muting the TV's audio, to prevent the sound from creating a hollow (echo) effect.
Good luck!

Kenwood vr-405 receiver

I have the 405 as well. My TV has an optical out and I run that straight to the 405 optical input. I set the input selector to DVD/CD (not DVD)and presto! TV audio out my speakers. It all comes down to the audio connections on your TV.

Denon AVR 2800 digital hookup to PS3

If your TV has an HDMI input, hook up the PS3 w/an HDMI cable to the TV. This will give you a high def picture (set up the PS3 to output the max resolution your TV displays). That will take care of the video side.

Next hook up an optical cable from the PS3 to the receiver. In the PS3 menu, you have to change the audio settings to output the sound via the optical cable.

Finally to get sound out of the receiver to the speakers, you have to setup the receiver source input. For example if you setup the PS3 to play thru "VCR" input, then you have to make sure the VCR input is setup to use either optical 1 or optical 2 for sound (whichever one you have the optical cable plugged in from the PS3).
  • I found this solution on a different site... it worked for me. I needed to change the sound settings in my ps3 to optical... then i selected dolby 5.1.... that took care of my sound.

Is your tv wired to a cable box or an HD antenna?

Case 1: If your signal is weak, then the chances are that the feedback from your tv to the receiver's processor cannot interpret a Dolby Digital signal.

Case 2: Check the TV MENU AUDIO setting. Does your TV have a ON/OFF feature for the optical output, or any aux. speaker outputs?

VR-606 DTS won't work

All I can tell you is that "CD/DVD" must be selected as the source when using the optical digital input on the VR-606/616. I don't believe it needs more than one input (optical or coaxial) to output DTS sound, assuming the source is outputting DTS in the first place.
