Frigidaire dishwasher Water does not go through arms, bottom or top, at all (does not wash). You can hear motor running. Pump works fine; discharges water as normal and fills to proper level. Problem just started with no warning; no strange noises etc.

I have a whirlpool Adp8540 that seems to go through the wash cycle completely but when we open it up the water has not gone through the spraying arms and the soap is a solid mass at the bottom of the...

It is likely the water circulation system is faulty. This dishwasher uses a single motor to run the water pump and the drain pump. If you hear the wash pump operate during wash cycle then it is likely there is a blockage in the water circulation manifold which distributes the water through the arms.

If you do not hear the pump operate during wash cycle then the sensor is faulty. The sensor tells dishwasher to switch to drain cycle from wash cycle.

Remove the dishwasher from the cabinet and look at the hose going up to the top. Make sure it isn't clogged and that there is nothing in the port where it comes out of the pump. The top arm is powered by water pressure from the pump.

Possible that the motor impeller has good particles in it, causing poor water pressure, which would be most evident on the top rack. You would have to remove the spray arm, then the filter, then the torx screws to get at impeller....unfortunately, that model of dishwasher isn't the greatest in the first place for washing, since it only has the one spray arm.

Water won't drain

First check that there isn't anything blocking the drain area inside the bottom of the dishwasher. Sometimes plastic wrap, a small Tupperware, etc. top gets sucked against the drain and blocks discharge. If nothing is there, (look really good, by getting out as much water as possible!!!). If nothing there, see if you have an "air-break" installed at the kitchen sink, this prevents backflow from the sink drain back into the dishwasher, check it by removing the decorative cover and see if it is clean and has no obstructions blocking water flow.

Another thing to check, is if you recently had a new disposal installed, it's possible that the dishwasher inlet was never "punched out" to allow for the dishwasher to drain thru the disposal. If none of those, continue with the investigation!

Check to see if some broken glass might have worked its' way into the drain area, beneath the drain discharge guard. You'll have to remove the cover, some are just clipped in place while others have a screw holding them in place.

If still nothing, it is possible that something has worked its' way all the way into the discharge pump section and you'll need to remove the dishwasher from under the counter to get at the pump section.

Normally when the dishwasher is in the pump out sequence, you can hear the pump motor and impeller spinning, if you can't, then proceed with removing the dishwasher and disconnect the power or shut off the breaker to it. It is quite possible that something has jammed the discharge impeller and is preventing pump out. Again, if you can hear the motor and impeller running, it could still have an obstruction. Bucket and towels will be needed to soak up all any water that you couldn't remove before pulling the dishwasher out from under the countertop.

If there is no obstruction in the discharge pump section and the discharge value (usually a simple rubber flap) is moving freely, then it could be the pump out solinoid (an electronic valve that opens the discharge port for pumping out water when the dishwasher is done washing and is signaled to drain. You should be able to cycle the dishwasher through a short cycle (wash & rinse) to see if everything is working. You'll need to restore AC power and have the water line turned on for this. If you don't see or hear the valve open up when the wash cycle is over, then it could be this part that has failed.

Frigidaire dishwasher model FDB857RJS1 not pumping water to the top arm. runs then makes a grinding sound like the motor skipping a gear then back to moving water but not enough pressure to get to the top...

HI, under the sump housing, there is a major issue concerning the circulation motor. there is a wash impeller that is connected to the circulation motor, via drive shaft and stud. this assembly has been stripped, due to a possible jam that was caused by a foreign object. the impeller is basically, producing the grinding sound you are hearing, you will need to replace this damaged wash impeller asap. it will ruin the motor soon if it is not removed.

This wash impeller is responsible for the flow of water during the wash cycle. it is not completely off the shaft but, eventually , it will break off soon, causing major damage to the circulation motor.

Dishwasher not pumping the water out?

the larger motor housing underneath the unit is what moves the water around to wash, the smaller pump is the drain pump, if you don't hear that running it is likely in need of replacement. check your paper work for warranty, if it's out of warranty try to find a deal online and it's relatively easy to replace

Frigidaire FDB740RCS0 Upper Armnot Turning

the motor stops and runs in the opposite direction to pump water up to the top rack. you first need to listen for the motor to stop and start. if you hear that open the door and try to tell if water was coming out of the top spray arm.
