F-11 and FDL, Board won't communicate and door lock failure.

I have an estimate from whirlpool authorized repair co. to repair this machine for $650.00. I have already replaced door gasket for $200.00, should I repair this thing or get a different machine it is almost 4 years old. Thanks Jeff

I have the FDL code showing - the machine won't lock. I have a service repair person coming this week. The machine is not even 4 years old and is having this issue - very disappointing. Consumer Reports gave this machine its best review in its category back in 2005. The repair person said that the FDL code can be difficult to diagnose and repair - he also said that he hopes it is just being caused by loose wires that have happened due to the spin cycle. I'm crossing my fingers. We may be buying a new machine, but probably not another Duet.

Having the same problem (F11 and now FDL). From reading the problems others are having I can see this is not a cheap fix. If anyone has it fixed please let us know what it cost. Had it for 4 or 5 years.

I have had the same problem. F11, then FDL.
I myself ordered and replaced the door lock part. (Part number 8181700 from Sears Parts $69.00 w/shipping)
This worked for one load, then continued to have the FDL error.
    NOW WHAT???
Can anyone help? Suggestions of what wires I can check to see if they came loose?

Thank you for your help "jonpseaborg"
I tried the machine after it sat all night, and it worked for the first load -- the door locked. But only for that one load, now back to FDL.
So this leads me to believe it is in fact a loose connection.

I am going to check for loose connections, actually have my father help me since I am intimidated by taking the top off.

Can you help me by telling me what to specifically look for and general area I might find a loose connection??

Try taking the top off and making sure all of the electrical connections are solid. I had the same problems with mine and discovered that all of the vibrating the machine does has a tendency to loosen connections. I end up doing this about once a month and it always fixes the problems.

I had the same Issue on a separate washer and dryer combination. On the washer the problem is wires that come loose due to vibration. Solution is to remove top of washer and push the wires into back into the terminal block in the back of the washer. This solves the problem for about a month and then it has to be doen again. Same solution as jonpseaborg

F 11 code flashing

The F-11 error code is a communication error between the main control and the motor control. I recommend unplugging the washer and removing the access panels.

Fdl error code because it is usually associated with the F11 code. The FdL fault code indicates that you have a problem with the door lock assembly. This is often caused by a failed door lock but it can also be caused by a failed wiring harness connection or in some instances by a failed control board.
Check for damage to the door hook on the washer door and look for anything that could be clogging the catch on the door lock assembly on the front panel of the washer.
You may need to check the wire harness connections on the door lock assembly. The images below show the procedure for accessing the door lock assembly on this type of washer. Be sure that you unplug the washer before accessing internal components.

I have seen the failure be caused by a door lock and a faulty machine control board. A little trick I have found is to remove the top of the washer and push down lightly on the connector that is labeled dls5 this connector should have four black wires. This connector is located on the machine control board under the top. Use an insulated screwdriver to push on the connector and start a cycle. If the door locks and the washer works, I recommend replacing the machine control. It has a bad solder joint on the board. We often see error code F11 also with bad solder joints on the control board. If pushing on the connector did not make a difference, I would suspect a faulty door lock first.

Hope this helps.

F11 is lost communications between the CCU circuit board and the MCU circuit board and the FdL code is a door lock problem. There more than likly is no door lock problem and the lost communications is only a half truth. The biggist problem that whirlpool has with these machines is bad solder joints on the CCU circuit board that prevent communications between the MCU, Door Lock, and other things. The cure is to remove the CCU circuit board (inside, top, back of machine) It's in a plastic case, remove the plastic case with the board in it, it's easier that way. Then touch-up the solder points where the spade connectors and the relays (5 of them) are supposed to be securly soldered to the circuit board. If you're not up on soldering techniques, just take the case and board, along with this response, to a good appliance repair shop and they should be able to help you out. Good luck.

When pushing start, washer beeps 3 times but won't start

Is the machine showing a "code" like FdL or F11 in the window where the numbers count down? The machine won't start because it thinks there's a problem. FdL and F11 are often times the codes most displayed when the machine beeps and won't start. FdL means a door lock problem and F11 means a motor or motor control board problem. If it's flashing either one of those codes the problem is most often the CCU circuit board in the machine (inside, top, back, plastic case) The CCU circuit board has what's called cold solder joints causing bad communication between the CCU and the door lock and/or the motor or motor control board. The cure for this is to remove the case with the circuit board then remove the circuit board and resolder the points on the circuit board where the spade connectors and relays (5 of them) connect to the circuit board. If you're good with soldering techniques the job is easy. If not, take the board in the case to a good appliance repair shop (along with this response) and they should be able to help you out. Good luck.

The code F dl is appearing at the end of the cycle and the door will not open, its a new machine less than 3 months old

I'm judging you have a whirlpool duet front load washer. The FdL code means the control circuit board (CCU) thinks there is something wrong with the door lock. Whirlpool had some bad quality control with the CCU board and as a result there are cold solder joints on the board at the spade terminals and the relays. These cold solder joints cause bad communications between the CCU and the rest of the machine, including the door lock. If your machine is only 3 months old you should call in for a warentee service repair. Show this response to the service person and if applicable he should be able to repair the board or exchange it. Good Luck.

I have a code fdl coming up. What does that mean?

FdL means that the main circuit board (CCU) is not communicating with the door lock and the door needs to be locked b/4 the washer will work. The door lock is rarely the problem. Most often its cold solder joints on the CCU circuit board causing the bad communication. Many times a F11 code comes along with the FdL code. To repair this problem the CCU circuit board needs to be removed and the solder points where the spade connectors and the relays are connected to the circuit board need to be soldered over again. This all stems from poor quality control when the circuit boards had the components soldered to them. The process was able to adhere the smaller connections but not the larger ones compleatly. If your not to handy with a soldering gun you could take this response and show it to a good appliance repair outlet and they should be able to repair your circuit board. Good Luck.

Have had F DL code and now F 11 code? I know FDL

"F11" is a Serial Communications error code. This means there is a loss of communications between the Central Control Unit (CCU), Motor Control Unit (MCU), and/or controls. The following link explains:

If you are receiving BOTH error codes, this means the CCU is not communicating properly with the door latch mechanism. This can be an indication of a broken door latch, failed CCU, or interconnecting wiring between the two. The CCU has a small relay on the board that controls the door latch. These boards are not serviceable, and if defective, must be replaced.

I would recommend you try these procedures first:

1. Remove the top panel of the washer by locating and removing the three screws that hold the panel in place in the rear. With the screws removed, the panel will slide back, then lift off.

2. The CCU is located directly behind the wash tub. Trace the wires that lead from the door latch mechanism. In the area where the door latch connector plug is connected to the CCU, tap the CCU with a screwdriver. Sometimes the relay on the board sticks and the latch will not lock.

3. If the door latch still fails to lock, UNPLUG the washer and disconnect the door latch connector plug from the CCU and reseat it. Do that same thing on the door latch. Sometimes the connectors become corroded and reseating them can restore connectivity.

4. If you still have problems perform a continuity check of the wires that lead from the door latch to the CCU.

If the error code(s) still persist, most commonly this is a CCU failure. Since the control board cannot communicate with the door latch, both errors will be generated.

Replacement parts can be purchased at any of the following web sites:

Prices vary between these sites, so shop and compare.

If you have any questions about any of these procedures, or need additional assistance, please post back and let me know. I hope this help you.
