Typically, you'll only need to clean your carabiners by blowing any dirt or dust away from the hinge area. If any additional cleaning is necessary, then be sure to wash your carabiner in warm soapy water, and rinse it thoroughly. Once it is rinsed and dry, be sure to lubricate the gate area with a dry graphite, WD40 or other kind of lubricant. Using a dry lubricant will help to keep your carabiner clean longer, as dirty will not be readily picked up. Once the gate has been lubricated, be sure to wipe off any excess lubricant.

If your offroad motorbike has a leaking fork seal, try this before you take it to get fixed.Get some old camera film(negatives)and cut off the holes on the edge.It needs to be about 4inches long.Cut the top off at 45%.Now slide and work the piece of film up into the fork seal. You then work the film up and down in a sawing motion as you go around the fork seal.If you FEEL some grit, slowly pull it out, wipe clean and start again.Do this untill the fork seal feels clean of grit.It can save you heaps of dollars and maybe it will fix your problem if you are out riding on the weekend. It very often works!

How should I pick my carabiners?

Depending on your style of climbing, you will want different kinds of Carabiners. There are basic types: your oval and D-shapes are your most basic Carabiners. Sometimes you'll want a locking Carabiner, especially for belay, or for anchors. Most Carabiners that you have will probably not be locking Carabiners. There are different types that are easier to clip. There's bent gates, straight gates, wire gates. It depends on your style and if you're weight conscious, or how durable you'd like them to be.

Which kind of carbiners shoul I use

The best carabiner shape for any kind of static rigging is a symmetric shape - oval is the best. Most carabiners are asymmetric "D" - which is stronger but will cause the line to shift when loaded - the oval shape is better because nothing will shift to one side of the carabiner when loaded. You could use standard aluminum carabiners or even locking ovals (Petzl and Omega make very nice locking ovals), but I would also suggest using steel carabiners - they are cheaper and stronger and since weight isn't an issue they are better.
