Question about Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z1 Digital Camera

2 Answers

Mode switch The mode switch will not switch to viewfinder mode which I prefer. Playback mode is OK. Also, indoor pictures have a yellow cast in the background. Is this a matter of changing the ISO setting and will that be a permanent change?

I have the same problem as Hophop's mode switch problem. I cannot use the viewfinder mode on my Minolta Dimage z1. It works fine using the LCD screen but it is not the mode I prefer. When I switch between the 2 modes the LCD blacks out for a moment but then comes back on without letting me use the view finder mode. I went to a Canadian camera repair shop but was told the camera can only be fixed in the USA. Where can I send this for repair? Any Help Out There for this problem.? Luke

I have the Dimage Z 1 that had the same viewfinder problem. It was stuck and I could not use the small viewfinder. I couldnt hear any loose parts so after looking at a diagram of the viewfinder I turned the camera upside down, shook it and thumped it a couple of times. I only did this becouse I would like a new camera and was NOT WORRIED about breaking it futher. Long story short.....the viewfinder was " stuck" not broken. It works fine now but i look foward to more problems so I can slap it around some more.

My dimage z5 and see alot of problems on ebay the net ....anyways being a tech for 25 years the cover came right off and u can see the switch is surface mounted. there is supposed to be a plastic lever coming out to manually engage to outer switch but missing ...upon closer inspection i could see alot busted up chards of small plastic ...the insideof the switch was completely ruined for bits where falling out...its just stuck in main veiwfinder. cant find the part itself anywhere on net. heard sony bought out minolta. my only bet is buy a broken camera with different prob. on ebay. Every picture i take is not a good quality either it's blurry or the color is horrible - kind of yellowish - what kind of adjustment do i have to make

Well the blurry is caused by poor focus. Try not to zoom too much. Better to get closer to the subject if possible. Study your manual and adjust your diopter which loosely means adjust the viewfinder in and out whilst looking at a subject without using any zoom until the picture is clear. Then take you'll find it easier to focus when you do actually zoom. Sometimes there's a small sliding piece of plastic sticking out of the side of the lens. Otherwise it's a matter of turning the eyepiece to get the clarity. That's why I said check the manual. That will explain which method to use.

The yellowish colour is unusual. I would say check you have the White balance switch set to auto but lack of white balance is not usually a yellow picture. But check the white balance switch anyway and make sure it's in auto mode.

Ordinary light bulbs or some street lighting can give a yellow caste so check you have the inside outside button switched to the correct position, depending on where you are at the time of shooting.

Did you buy the camera used or new. Often people who have faulty cameras will sell them off cheap and run. Leaving the owner with the problems.

So to sum up. get closer to your subject rather than use zoom if you can. If you use a lot of zoom either use a tripod or place the camera on a firm surface or even hold the camera whilst you stop yourself from moving by leaning against a wall or tree etc.

Next remeber where you are and switch the indoor/outdoor switch accordingly

Yellow cast to indoor pictures, when I take pictures at my kids baskteball games and other indoor events, concerts, etc, the picture has a yellow tone to it, like the light is not sufficient, but it is...

This is most likely the White Balance, if the pictures look yellow under artificial light.

I cannot find a manual online so I do not know if you can set the white balance yourself.
If you can, set it to artificial light. Remember to set it back for normal shooting.

You might like to try the Indoor Scene Mode, this should set it for you.

Hope this helps.

Image flicker when viewing pictures in playback mode

You have the camera in Highlights mode.. while in playback use the up,down, right, left pad press it up and it will go through different displays like what settings you had the camera in when you took the picture then there is a graph screen... after that one is the highlights display which is what you have it on. Push up one more time to have it on regular playback mode. The manual explains this much better than I just did. If you have the manual you should check it out if my instructions dont help.

Only works in playback mode

If when switching from playback to LCD then Viewfinder and no preview display is visible in either LCD nor viewfinder then the switch is not switching. If the red battery light is on try new batteries as some functions are unavailable with low battery power or connect the AC adaptor to see if power is a problem. Does the menu work? Does the zoom function move the lens? If all is functional in the playback mode then the switch may not be making contact internally. Carefully apply pressure to the switch while slowly moving it between all 3 positions while seeing if any display changes both through the viewfinder and the LCD. If you are technically confident you can open the camera case and try bridging the switch poles with a small screw driver to see if the switch is defective or misaligned. EBay has had DiMAGE cameras listed for 'parts only' very cheap but the Z3 would not merit the cost of a camera repair shop. My last successful bid for a Z6 was $200 2 years ago. My first repair on a digital camera was pretty simple since inside the case is a single printed circuit board with little ribbon connectors that can be reseated at ZIF type connectors. Just be careful, slow and keep track of the screws and parts orientation. Any friend who fixes laptops can help you but a shop will cost you more than the camera is worth. Good luck.

Distorted Viewfinder Only In PIcture Mode

Yes, You are correct, it does not seem to be problem with the CCD. Insted it seems to be with shutter control or apparture control mechanism of the camera. Normaly there is one single cable carring signal to the shutter blade mechanism and the diaphram control. If this cable is damaged it shows the same symptoms as you have described in your mail. Get in touch with an expert camera repairer.

No display in record mode on Samsung VP-D31

Sounds like you may have a problem in the auto iris curcuit or the auto settings was switched to manual and the lens is closed. Check first to see that the lens is setup in auto mode. If it is then the auto iris as i said before is bad or stuck closed unless the small caps in that curcuit went bad as they always do after a few years. Good Luck
