Thanks for the rersponse. There is no (visible) button or port on back of router.

I will check the manual if we can find it. (In the midst of a move!!)

    Any other ideas??

  • bambrickterr Dec 01, 2008

Yes; the model number is F5D7230-4.

I had another look for a recessed port but no joy. I can't find one, back, front or sides.

    Appreciate your help with this.

There is normally a recessed 'reset' button on the back of the router. If you press this for a set length of time (usually 10 seconds, but check your manual) it will reset your router to 'factory defaults' - including the password.

You can then enter the router configuration screen using the factory default password (I think, for Belkin, this is just blank - your manual will tell you).

Come back if this is not clear, or if you need further help.

I'll help if I can! Can you tell me the model number of the router (sometimes there is a label attached to it?). If it's there, the reset 'button' is tiny, and may be unmarked...

    Good luck with the move!....:)

OK, many thanks! I've got more than one manual up for this model, but the diagram I have shows the reset button as a tiny hole in the back of the router. It's between the ethernet ports and the power port.

It's so small you can only press it with the end of an unravelled paperclip. I hope it's there? If not, it may be on the base - unfortunately the diagram and annotation don't quite match. All I can say is it's so tiny you could mistake it for something else.

The manual advises that you press this for at least 10 seconds while the power light is on. The light will blink: when it becomes solid again, you have achieved the reset.

    Any luck? (fingers crossed)

I forget login password of router

A forgotten or lost router password cannot be recovered. It can only be reset by hard resetting the router. After a hard reset, every router returns to default factory settings.

WIRELESS GATEWAY

How to View or Change Your Wireless Network Password

Symptoms:

You have lost or forgotten the password to your wireless network
You have lost or forgotten the password for the router, access point or other network device
You left the default password or used a weak password and someone has hijacked your network

Depending on the router, you can either view or reset the wireless network password (also referred to as the passphrase or security key) if you can log into the router. Some routers mask the wireless network password, so while you cannot recover it, you can enter and save a new password.

If you cannot log into your router because you have forgotten the router password or your network has been hijacked, please refer to "Lost or forgotten password for router or other device" below.

To view or reset a wireless network password:

Launch your Internet browser and type http://www.routerlogin.net in or http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 the address field for your browser. Enter the router's username and password.
The default username is admin, the default password is password.
From the left-hand navigation menu of the Router administration interface, select Set Up > Wireless Settings
Note: On some routers this option will be under BASIC > Wireless.
From the center screen, you find the current wireless security settings under the Security Options heading.

If the wireless network passphrase is visible, review it and use it to log devices onto your network.
If it is not visible, you can change your wireless passphrase; however, changing the passphrase will cause you to lose your wireless connection. Connect your computer to the router with an Ethernet cable before entering a new passphrase into the text box and clicking Apply.

Read more about Securing your Wireless Network.
If you cannot log into your router:

- If you were routed to the NETGEAR website or getting the "Page cannot be displayed" message when trying to login to router, make sure you are connected to the NETGEAR router. Check your wired connection and make sure cable is securely plugged in and LED is on. If wireless adapter is on, make sure you are NOT connected on a different wireless network.

- Unfortunately, there is no way to recover a lost or forgotten password from a router or access point; you will need to reset the device to factory defaults. However, once the device is reset to factory defaults, you can use the default access information to reconfigure your router settings. NOTE: Restoring factory defaults on a device will erase any customizations you have made. You will lose any configurations saved to the device!

How can I recover my password, I have forgotten it?

Generally you cannot.
You should try using the default password for your router if you have not changed it. If it doesn't work, you can reset the router by pushing in the button on the back of the router and holding it for 10 seconds. Usually, it is protected by the case so you cant accidentally press it, use toothpick or a needle or some such. By doing that you are resetting it to the factory settings which means password will be reset to the factory default too.
However, you will also reset user info such as your Internet username and password and things like your wireless network set-up (including its password), port forwards and so forth. Make sure you know how to re-enter that information so you can re-establish the connection to Internet or any wireless devices.

I forgot my Password for NETGear WGT624 Please help

Unfortunately, there is no way to recover a lost or forgotten password from a router or access point; you will need to reset the device to factory defaults. However, once the device is reset to factory defaults, you can use the default username ("admin") and password (either "password" or "1234" depending on your router) to reconfigure your router settings.

or

if there is a small hole in the front or back of the router push a hair pin in to reset to factory settings

hope this helps

Forgot password

In case you have forgotten the password of your router, there is no way to recover it back.
ALL YOU CAN DO IS TO RESET THE ROUTER TO FACTORY SETTINGS
You may reset router to factory settings by pressing the reset button on the back side of the router. Press the button for a few seconds, the lights on the front would blink and the router would restart with factory settings. Please note that ALL SETTING WOULD BE LOST...AND YOU WOULD HAVE TO MAKE ALL NETWORK CONFIGURATIONS AND SETTINGS ALL OVER AGAIN

GoodLuck!
Dont forget to appreciate the solution if I could have been of any help!

Hi, im wondering if you can help me with my router problem. i have an smc router, model wbr14g2 and i have forgotten the password. is there any way i could recover the password or reset the router to...

Routers have a reset button on the back, its usually a hole that you need to push a paperclip or something in for about 20 seconds.
Then google wbr14g2 setup, you will find your guide to setting up your router and security

Forgotten Password

On the back, there is a small hole, state "reset".
push and hold this for a few seconds, and you have set it to "factory default".
Remember to access your router with a wire, NOT wireless :-)
