This happened suddenly: To activate MP970 scanner, I went to Photoshop Elements > File > import as I usually do to scan, but import and export are grayed down so that I cannot activate scanner. I have tried everything I know, including reinstalling the CD software. I am in the middle of producing an important newsletter, so please advise as soon as possible. Thank you.

scan with adob photoshop /import - from - your scaner device/ , it will be correctly, maybe toolbox not working normally, if with photoshop will not be resaults, in control panel \ in scaner and imaging devices see is there your scanner, if it will not be in there, reinstall driver.
I don't think it's any of those things. I think it's a Twain Data Source problem. When you install the software for your scanner, make sure you also install the twain data source files. This is the scanning protocol used by all scanners and if not present, the scanner won't import images into Photoshop under the command "File" -> "Acquire."
please the scaner driver cds put in cd-rom other cd dariter and instoll the scaner driver ane location in c drive in instoll
and start the scaner and opening the user progrmmes and start job
and second time adobe photofhop progrmmes is instoll and open the photoshop and scan in and you chouse the file just tiff - jpeg -other select and ok this file other progrmme in workink file ok
Of course scanner have it's own freeware software provided with driver & software for your scanner with all operating system required. Run the Disc to install a program with the drivers also to let you scan documents, pictures, & etc... All the setting are there to know how to scan.... First Preview it then scan and it will send to your driver (destination folder) where it saves the files. Good luck!
Well, more details are needed here.
But to start, uninstall any scaning software you got. Then install the Software package from the HP website.
Then try again using this software and be sure to follow the step by step installation on the screen.
If you have photoshop installed or some smiliar software, you could try to use the Acquire/Import from TWAIN option... should be in the file menu somewhere. This will try to import your scan in photoshop or your software directly.
If it's still not working, give us more information about what happens, what you did to solve your problem so far.
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15999 I have a Mac running OS X 10.5.5. dan123 answered my hp3500c problem with the above link. I downloaded the dmg file and installed the hp environment and it works. I was not, however, able to use the Photoshop plugin in Photoshop Elements 6. I can use the hp GUI and name Photoshop Elements as the output. I performs the scan and then opens it in Photoshop.
The current software is 1.0.3. It does work with this scanner and XP.
You should install the drivers after removing the existing driver and software. Do not hook up the scanner until the drivers have been installed.
It might not show up under the Cameras and Scanners section in Control Panel but it will still work.
When you open Elements make sure your scanner is on with the door closed. Go down to where you import and look for the scanner to be listed. It will take a minute or two to go through its calibration routine and then you should be able to scan with it.
