If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If it goes dead or blows the breaker (or GFI) when you plug it in or open or close the door, then there's a problem with a door switch or door switch mount.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:
http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/cap_test.html
http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html (if it is NOT shorted, it's probably fine)
http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/xformer.html

You can usually find exploded views Sears parts site.

BUT Once you have the part numbers, the best place to order Sharp parts is Tritronics.

How to fix loud hum and no heating in Sharp model R-308KW?

Hi,
There could be a variety of reasons why this happens, but the likeliest
reason is the secondary interlock or monitor switch is broken. These are micro switches that tell the microwave that the door is closed. If this switch is broken, then the microwave thinks the door is still open and the carousel table won't turn, and the oven will not heat up.
I replaced an interlock switch last Saturday. The switch was $7.00 and took me an hour.
Ask your local repair person to test the interlock and monitor switches first, then go from there.
Good luck,
Hank

Microwave hums and panel lights up when plugged in

To many variables and testing needed to explain, but my feeling is that the board is faulty. Have had that happen on a few occasions but with a different brand. On occasion ive seen microwave come on when door is opened but that was loose limit switches for the door latch. Normally humming is due to a faulty magnatron, but it can also be from incorrect voltage onto the magnatron due to the faulty board. Need to concider if repair cost is worth it even though Sharp is excellent microwave. If you do, i would start with the board.

Sharp microwave...I can't find or identify the part I need

This is the "turntable coupler".

For model number R-1461, that part number is NCPL-B005MRF0 (note that those are zeros, not "ohs")

You can order this from Encompass here or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.

Makes a loud humming sound and blows fuse behind controll panel

Most likely a shorted capacitor is causing the fuse to blow. Easy and cheap to fix.

Microwave made a loud pop, won't heat, sounds like it's only on half power, makes a low intermittent hum

This is almost certainly a blown high voltage diode.

Please reply back with your brand and model number so we can help you.

Dead replaced fuse now makes loud noise

Yes that noise is causing your fuse to blow. Machine gun sound sounds like the High Voltage Capacitor or High voltage diode is bad. (Loud humming sound is usually a bad magnetron or bad power transformer). Most of these parts are inexpensive, except for the magnetron. But most of the repair bill is most likely going to be for labor.

Based on your model, it looks like an over the range microwave. And to fix any of these problems require the removal of the microwave from the wall. So its up to you if you want to deal with that hassle. But you also have to consider that you'll probably have a hard time trying to find a new microwave that will fit.
