Power light blinks when I turn the TV on - no picture, no sound. Cable company says it is a problem with the TV which I have had for only 8 years.

Red led blinking. tv wont turn on model number

Hi Rick,

First of all, thank you for posting your question here at Fixya.
My first advice is to unplug the unit from the outlet at least 30 minutes to reset itself and check if the symptoms still persists. If yes, may I know if it encountered before then there's some instances that the unit will power up after a few minutes of pressing the power button key?
Also, please double check the model number of your unit, if I'm not mistaken, it is 50H81 not 50H87.

After power button is turned on the led light flashes, and the only way I can get a picture is to bang on the front of the tv by the power button.

Sounds like you have a "Dry Joint" or bad connection, or even a faulty power switch.. this is a fairly common one... try a switch replacement first? Or look for a bad joint on or around the switch connections.

Push power sounds like it turns on but it doesnt

Discharge the power from the set before you do anything. HIGH VOLTAGE!!! Look at the power supply. It will be in the area where your power chord is soldered in. Toshiba sets are notorious for the mosfet chips going bad. But your problem almost sounds like some bad capacitors. If the mosfets were bad, you wouldn't have any power to your buttons/LEDs. Replace all of the capacitors within the power supply section. They're cheap.

I have a Toshiba cz36v51 that won't come on...

I do not have that make and model. However:

Some remotes have to have a code set that matches the brand of the tv. Your remote should have come with a list of brands and codes.

Alternatively, the instructions for your remote should tell you how to determine which code to use.

TV turns off by itself after being on for 60 seconds

Led blinking Three times means B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power supply circuit, check T603 and R672.
Hope this helps.

Power light blinks

I would start with C869 a 2.2 Uf at 200 Vdc in the power supply. I have replaced a fair share of those in these sets. Of course the first thing to check would be the pico fuse in the power supply regulation circuits F860 a 4 Amp Pico Fuse and if it is blown, you will have to replace Q801 the Regulator IC Str-Z4214 Part # 23906369. If you're not that good at soldering and measuring capacitance and resistance, this would be a job for a more experienced tech.
