Turns out the switch on the Toshiba Satellite 1110 laptop that clicks in when laptop is closed was playing up. Laptop thought screen was down and closed when it was up and hence went into power management mode of lowering power to lowest level including dropping all screen brightness. Jiggled the switch and it then realised screen was up and returned screen brightness to correct level. Thanks to all who offered a solution.

I have a toshiba satellite m305D-S4830 with OS Vista but the display is barely visible

If pressing the Fn and the F 3 or whichever F key for your brightness does not increase it then the invertor is possibly low emission. Replace the inverter.

My toshiba screen has become dim, what is causing this?

Try changing that from BIOS setup by pressing an F key (not sure which as it varies from vendor to vendor) when you just booted your laptop. Once there seek an option for display brightness

Laptop power is on, but will not load, and screen stays blank

I would take the laptop in to have it fixed. I believe it would be the cord connecting the monitor gone bad.

TRY HITTING "Fn" Button and the F** button that shows multiple displays. Check if the external display works

Laptop screen produces image, but there is no illumination

Hello

The screen brightness may be too low. That may happen in certain power regimes ( when used on battery power, presentation, etc.)

Here is how to change screen brightness on a Toshiba satellite that has the Toshiba Power saver software installed

Go to the Control panel, Click Toshiba Power Saver ( icon has two hands praying?) and increase the screen brightness. in each of the different regimes provided : Full power, High Power, Normal, DVD Playback and so on.

Hope it restores your computer screen to light.

Once finished, press the apply button

I can't read my screen because it it too llght

You should have a Fn button on your laptop, and pressing that, combined with the button that has a sun on it should raise your screen brightness, if your screen only has one brightness setting, and it got much darker all of a sudden, your LCD lamp probably went out, in which case it is probably better to buy a new laptop, because those are expensive to replace.
