I am unable to reformat a sdhc 16gb with windows does anyone know of a program that I can use to reformat to fat32

  • MikoLone Feb 26, 2009

I can read from the disk. I can't delete from the disk. it is a 16GB SDHC card. The camera I use it cannot format it. Windows can't format it. Seems to still work because I can read the photos off of it.

It seems to me that windows has somehow locked the files for writing or deleting. Is there a way to release them?

I know the pain, the card works, it could be formatted in the device you use it in (e.g. digital cam, PDA), yet it could not be formatted using SDFormatter.

The best fix is to not use a multi card reader. Use a pure SD card reader/writer.

Maybe to set the lock tab in between the locked and unlocked position might work too.

Hello is the card write protected? Have you locked it? Normally your operating system will tell you this.
Hope this helps,

Hey, I had the same problem. The card was unreadable, and couldn't format it.
Then I found out that Canon Ixus 75 has a "low format" function, and then I was able to get it to work again.

How can I get the card reader to recognize sdhc cards

It's not your card reader, the SDHC mini firmware is dead that's why your reader cannot detect it. Warranty, return it to SanDisk for a new one. Every hardware you plug or attach to a PC or Laptop has what is called a firmware, a mini program that communicates with your PC and Laptop that's how they syst

Checked on there web site says they can handle 32 GB cards. But you said something interesting you said you have SDHC cards, which are NOT the same as hd cards. So while a device may take one cared they will not take another card.

Not sure what the difference is but different they are. Try a larger SD card if you can find one, probably find the SD format will work fine but SDHC not at all.

Hope this helps

I cant seem to access MY SD Memory Card from my New Camera through the SD Card slot on the Front panel of My Aspire M1201 - The Green LED is on but no pop up and i cant find the correct the section to...

Newer cameras may have SDHC cards - these have a high capacity. Older computers can't read the newer SDHC cards - they can only read the old SD Cards. The SD card and SDHC cards look exactly the same. The SDHC card will probably say "SDHC" on it somewhere. Fortunately you can buy a USB SDHC card reader for a computer for around £2 on amazon. I would buy one of those. You could search the internet for "usb sdhc card reader".

Emachines w 3507 desktop isnt recognizing sdhc card

This PC was made before SDHC was finalized so the built-in media reader will not read SDHC. You will need to purchase an SDHC compatible media card reader device. I've seen them for as little as $3.99 and they just plug in via USB.

ACER ASPIRE T180

This is a difficult one. It could be the card itself or the card is not formatted.

You may need to buy a card reader that has itself own driver for this format.

http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/desktop/aspire_t180.html

Try looking on the ACER sirte for a driver taht is compatible...

other... buy a card reader at www.newegg.com that is compatiblie.

Best of Luck,

Windows won't read SCHC card

If you're using the SDHC card with a mobile phone or a portable media player, chances are that, the device would have formatted the card to its requirements, which renders it non-readable under windows. To view the contents of the card, you'll need to insert it into the device and connect the device to your PC.

I have a 4gb sandisk micro sdhc with adapter and the computer freezes when i have it in the sd drive.I have a hp pavilion a1 a1203w. Is there anything i can do?? Please Help

I had a similar problem not long ago. The SD and SDHC standards are different. SD only goes up to 2GB, and SDHC (high capacity) goes higher than 2GB. THe problem is that SD card readers aren't capable of reading SDHC cards, even though the card will physically fit into the card reader slot. When you insert an SDHC card into an SD card reader, the reader attempts to read the format, and locks up the OS while trying. You'll need to get an SDHC card reader and use it separately like through a USB port or something.

8gb memory stick only able to take 2mb of data

What?  Perhaps you mean your SDHC SD memory card can only store 2GB of data because your card reader and its drivers are pre-SDHC?  Usually formatting isn't an issue.  You get a "disk full" error after 2MB, copying from some file manager?  What, really?
