Symptoms shows TV got problem in Horizontal deflection area that's why you do not see picture and get only sound.I think its not worth to repair as its 14 years old model and spear parts might not be available or cost too much. Since you still want to repair it, let me know exact model number of TV to check parts are available some where?

the problem you are describing sounds like a vertical output ic problem could be it needs to be resoldered or could be defective and needs to be replaced if you are handy you can do the repair yourself a repair shop would be at least about 100.00 for service call and problably 150.00 or more for repair but if you are handy I can post you a link where you can get the IC with free online tech support to do this repair yourself

No picture or sound

The most common cause for a bowed picture is the convergence power supply module. The module will fail and sometimes blow the fuse. Average cost of repair would be around $100, if you brought it to a tv shop, more for in home service.
