This is the magnetron going bad and it is heating the outside and the inside(probably not so much on the inside right?) Well this is DANGEROUS now and i would no longer use it , as it is sending waves out and thats why it is getting hot , it will need professional service as microwaves are extreemly dangerous

if you only paid a little bit for it then yes buying a new one would be best. As parts and labor can add up.

Thanks for this response. My unit is over 10 years old and this evening I got burned when I bumped my hand on the wall while trying to remove a larger bowl. It has never been hot like this before. It will be on the curb this trash day and I will be purchasing a new one right away.

There are door switches and one of them is evidently out of adjustment or the little actuator arm on it is.

Microwave wont heat

We would need to know the full model number from the tag in the cooking cavity or elsewhere on the microwave, such as the door frame, controller frame, etc.

Please post a new help request with that and more detailed symptoms, such as when it occurs.

When you hit "Start" to microwave, do the inside light, cooling fan, and turntable all come on?

Any unusual noises? Is it louder or quieter than usual?

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are operating here.

Sharp R-1510 1000 watts microwave, not heating

Sounds like the inverter (power supply for cooking) or the magnatron which does the work----neither are cheap parts.

I need to know the dimensions of a sharp r-1471 microwave. Mine has stopped working and I want to make sure the replacement will fit

29 15/16" W X 16 3/8" H X15 1/4" D (outside dimensions)
I copied this from my Sharp Carousel Operation Manual as I just
had to replace my 13 year old microwave.

I have a Sharp Carousel R-590 microwave that is about 10 years old. I fixed popcorn last night and after it stopped I added 30 seconds. It appeared to run but with a different and louder noise. However,...

It sounds like the magnetron may have either failed or is not being supplied with the extremely high voltage required to run it.
Make sure the !!!!capacitor is discharged!!!!! before attempting any sort of repair.
Check the door interlock switches first then the high voltage diode with either an AVO model 8 on high resistance range for short circuit, the capacitor can fail and go short circuit, the feed fuse on the primary of the high voltage transformer and then finally, the magnetron is best checked by substitution.
Hope that helps

Built-in Sharp Carousel II Microwave Convection Oven died.

There are a couple of safety thermostats in the oven to shut down power if something overheats. One is on the magnetron tube (the microwave source), the other is on the cooking cavity. These sometimes go bad. There's also a power line fuse that may have failed, or become loose in its mounting clips. These can be tested with an ohmmeter; they should all measure very close to zero ohms if they're good.

Another possibility is that the control circuit board in the oven may have failed. I have worked on several Sharp ovens where the power transformer for the board has gone bad for no good reason. If the board goes bad the oven may appear to be dead as well.

Microwave servicing is best left to professionals. If you're thinking of keeping this one, take it to a service shop (or call for home service) and get an estimate. Then decide whether to repair or replace.

Hope this has helped a little. Thanks for using Fixya!

I bought a Sharp Carousel 1100 watt microwave about 8 months ago but now it makes a louder noise when it's on and it doesn't heat. Can I easily fix this myself or is this now trash?

A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron.

Since it's less than a year old, it's fully under warranty and Sharp will fix it free.

You can contact Sharp at 1-800-BE-SHARP (1-800-237-4277) or visit them online to get it fixed.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Sharp Carousel Model#4A58: was cooking & made

If you have no power what so ever its probably the main fuse inside the mirowave. You'll have to take it apart. If you try this yourself unplug it then there are several screws around the cabinet of microwave remove them and make sure that they go back where you took them out from because they may or maynot be the same size or length. once you get the cabint off follow the plug wire up into the micro wave there may or may not be a fuse on the wire just inside the frame of the Microwave but it will be close when you find it take it out and replace with the exact size take it to a appliance parts store and get the replacement.

Squeaky carousel

It can be oiled with something akin to Pam (cooking oil spray). You don't want petroleum products in your oven -- it'd take forever to get the fumes out.

I'd try first just spraying some under the turntable as far back toward the center as you can get it -- run oven -- spray some more, etc., etc.
