If its there,The ticking sound is from the relay, I think, that powers the unit. The power supply is probably on the fritz.

Isn't this unit still under warranty? If so, I urge you to get it covered under the warranty program. You can find the warranty coverage in the owners manual.

If it is not under warranty try a hard reset just to make sure it is not a software corruption, but I doubt it and it will probably need servicing by a qualified tech.

HARD RESET: Merely unplug the power cord for 1 hour and reboot.

Also, look at the troubleshooting page in the manual.

AND: Try going into the service mode to see if there are error messages that come up telling you more about the trouble it has experienced. You can find out how to get into the service mode at this website.

    http://www.fixyourowntv.com/servicemenu....

Then let me know if you need further help.

With no signal present, and without any user operation, the Panasonic screensaver will
appear automatically after a few minutes to prevent image retention..Remove the signal cable and then connect it back and select the source from the remote in the main menu..

Good luck....

The only setting that can be concerned is the input channel selection. Check also all cables at the back.

If the TV is freezing on startup with the Panasonic logo, and this is not related to the input channel selection, then this is not a setting problem, the firmware/software for the TV is damaged and is not completing the startup test.

On the manual the advice when this happens is to call the service number listed.

To start, unplug TV power cable, and also all input cables, particularly HDMI and receivers cables, for ten minutes and see if this restart the unit.

If that does not work, unplug for longer, let say up to three hours, to drain power from the set completely.

Here is the user manual for your product: Owner's Manuals: 3.98mb PDF

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Check the Input mode. You will have option like AV1 AV2 RGB HDMI etc. Change the input mode one by one and then check.

Please tell me how the TV is connected. Is it cable directly going or do you have any Settop Bix?

Thanks

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls try a reset. Two ways:

  • unplug from the mains for an extended period of time, preferably overnight; or
  • press and hold the OK button and Power button down till the screen change;
  • unplug;
  • see if the unit will do an AutoScan. or
  • go into the OSD and reset all the user options
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

First off make sure your tv isn't set to AV mode. Then make sure you have the correct input selected for the video source. If you need further assistance let me know. Please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly.
Thanks,

With the Power On, hold down the Play/Repeat On button for 5 seconds. This will toggle the 'feature' on and off.

I believe the 3rd page of the PDF names the buttons I mentioned in a nice diagram of the remote. Hope this helps.

on main unit hold both CH up and CH down at the same time, for 10 seconds. You could give that a try. It should set it back to factory defaults.

How to unlock panview television

You are going to have to get the code to reset the password--depending on actual brand and model it would be done with the original remote--This could also be a lock from the cable or sat box if you are using one--usually it is in the sets menu----precise Model and Brand needed.

With those make a quick call to the maker for help resetting the password or number code on the unit.

Two types or more of sets: regular TV sets with a picture Tube, big rear projection sets, Plasma, LCD, DLP

A model number would allow me to give you the answer--I suspect you have a set with a picture tube(regular tv)

Let me know which so I can try to give correct answer.

A black rectangle showing in the middle of the screen this appeared suddenly

this sounds like screen burn with rear projection and plasma when a picture is left sitting still on the screen sometimes it will burn in to the screen rendering it useless i left my ps3 paused on my old tv then when i changed to bbc one it still had a faint call of duty pause screen in the back it can vary from things like that to logos to your black rectangle the only way of repair is by replacing the screen all toghether i would advise you to just take the screen off and start using the tv as a projector if you cant find a screen it is only a bit of ribbed plastic but very hard part to find

Can a hdmi port be installed to a panasonic TH42PA50A

No, besides your television can only do enhanced definition (852 x 480) High def is 1920 x 1080. HDMI is for high def only, however, if you have something with an hdmi output that you need to connect to your tv there are adapters available to make such conversion. Sorry for the bad news but hopefully this helps
