No Disc Error

My Home Theatre System suddenly started behaving crazy. It used to play all types of discs but now it only plays CD's abd VCD's but not DVD's. I tried all options to make it work but it always comes back saying 'NO DISC' whatever I do. I have powered off the unit completely and waited for a while to make it work but did not help. I tried to rset to factory default settngs but did not help. Anybody has the same problem please help. Can I assume that my unit is gone for toss?? Thanks,

Try getting a can of spray air and spraying into the dvd player. The DVD eye or reader may be covered in dust or dirt. If that doesn't work try taking it apart and cleaning the eye with an alcohol dipped q-tip. Hope that helps.

There error reads that "this type of disc cannot

The Systems that I have is an SC-HT70/SC-HT65 which appears to be almost the same type of system. My system cannot play the following disc:
*DVD with an unsuitable region number
*PAL system discs
8DIVX Video Disc
*Photo CD etc.
Therefore, you will not be able to play any of these in your system.
If you are in the USA or Canada, you can play any DVDs that is marked with the number 1 or ALL.
Hope this helps

Kenwood DVD player 5 speaker system

There is nothing wrong with it, it is set to only play in the region it was purchased from. That is how all DVD players are made, with regional settings. No repair is going to help, you just need a DVD player from the proper region to play those disc's.

DVD display indicates "no disc"

Try a lens cleaner cd, as when the lens gets misaligned or if it's quite old, it will find it harder to read a DVD as the tracks are much closer together than that of a VCD as they are cd's and their tracks are wider apart and easier to read.
