Question about Philips 55PP9401 55" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Problem with HDTV on my Philips 55PP9401.

I own a Philips 55PP9401 and when I hook up my XBOX360 up to it with the High Def cables and set it up for 720/1080i the picture looks horrible. I own an Philips anolog TV and it has a better picture than my 55in. I have all the right cables because when I hook my 360 up to my 41in Magnavox HDTV the picture is as clear and as sharp as day. Was this just false advertisement when I bought this TV because I am ready to toss it out and pick up a Sony HDTV 1080i/p. Thanks for the help !!!

It is not reccommended for game console to be played on a projection t.v because projection tv's have three color bulbs in them and the conversion is different and if it happens to work it has been known to have burn the games image in the screen after awhile.. usually the store doesn't tell youthat unless you ask them about playing game consoles on a projection tv

Your picture is small, but it looks like you've got available HDMI jacks on it. if so, connect and HDMI cable between the Xbox360 and you're done! High Def video and audio will be sent to the TV when you select the input that matches the one you've connected the Xbox360 to. More details linked below:

I want to know if you have to turn on the HD conponents cause i tried to use my xbox360 and thier is nothing on the screen. i already check the xbox360 wires and they are fine.

If you are using a high def tv and u want to play with hi def graphics, u must put the switch on the xbox av/component leads to HDTV, otherwise, standard def will be used. Check the tv input by using a dvd player or another input source to confirm it works. Good Luck.

No picture - only sound

Ok, on a hi-def tv, you must have a converter box capable of receiving Hi-def. If you are using a converter box from a satalite or cable tv service, try getting a Hi-def box. Also try hooking a vcr or dvd player to the tv in the non high def ports to varify that this is the problem. If you have any question please let me know, I hope this helps, good luck.

Powersurge made my HD setting revert to low def.

Your TV plays High Def material through either Input 4 (uses component cables R,G,B) or through Input 5 (Uses DVI cable).
Today most equipment uses HDMI cable for High Def or it may have a component (RGB) output that you can use. The DVI hookup is best, so you need a HDMI to DVI cable or Component Cables (Red, Green, Blue). You need some source that OUTPUTS High def (ex. 1080i) either through HDMI or component cable. You need to either connect the component cable(R,G,B) from the source to the Input 4 on the TV or connect the HDMI to DVI cable from the source to the Input 5.
You need to set the AV source on the TV to AV5 (if you are using the DVI input) or AV4 (if you are using component cables).
If you want to play Highdef source like Blue Ray then you can just connect the output of the blu ray player to your Tv using either the HDMI to DVI cable or component cable (Red, Green, Blue) and set the TV input to AV5 (for HDMI/DVI) or AV4 (for component).
But if you are trying to get Free High Def from an antenna then you will need to have a component that can OUTPUT high def. The $40 converter boxes don't do this - they simply convert the Digital signal to Analog (non high def). What you need is a High Def TUNER that OUTPUTS High Def. I was looking for one for this same reason and ordered the centronics ZAT 502 HD. But it cost about $80. Then I saw that Tivo had an upgrade deal where I could upgrade my existing Series 2 Tivo to Tivo HD for $99. It has a High Def Tuner in it. So I cancelled my order with Centronics and got the Tivo. In any case if you want Over the air HD you will need a High Def Tuner that will OUTPUT 1080.

Will set be campatable after June with the new high def?

Your set is HDTV-ready....

With an HDTV-ready set you’ll need an external digital tuner to watch HDTV programming.

However, if you have high-definition cable or satellite service you can watch those HDTV stations right now on your HDTV-ready set, no extra tuner needed.

which means you will still need a converter box if you use an antenna signal.

Scrabble when HDMI cables are hooked up to AV4

Your issue has nothing to do with the repair. This TV model maxes at 1080i, and your video game maxes at 1080p. Set both the TV and the video game system to either 1080i for high-def or settle with 480p by setting bothe the TV and video game to that resolution. If the problem persists even after this, then check the Philips website for a firm upgrade. WARNING: use of modern video game systems with a plasma or projection TV is a bad idea.
