Question about HP Compaq ProLiant ML530 Server

1 Answer

Compaq Proliant ML530 will not start up. I have a green blinking light on the power supply and the unit will not power up. There seems to be some power getting to the mother board because i can see some LED's lit. Right next to the power button on the front of the machine the there is an amber light like it's ready to start up. I hit the button like i would normally do to start the maching up but i get nothing.

When i start it show 2 redlight and its blinking

Hi,
The Firmware Maintenance CD, which shipped with Rapid Deployment Pack - Windows Edition 3.50, allows the iLO 2 firmware to be successfully upgraded using the "Upgrade ProLiant ML/DL/BL Firmware" job in RDP.
For more information on Rapid Deployment Pack - Windows Edition, refer to the following URL:

Compaq proliant 5500 server wont power up

In my experience when a server/computer does absolutely nothing when the power button is pressed it is a dead processor. That may not be the case in your situation. It could be as simple as a defective power switch. Is the switch a soft touch or does it push in and click? Does the switch feel normal when pushed? One of the power supplies could also be bad. Do you have any good power supplies to test in the server? Were there any power outages recently that could have caused damage to the PSU? I would start with checking the switch. You could hook up a circuit tester and see if the switch completes the circuit when depressed. Also take a look inside the server and look for any loose connections on the mainboard. It is possible the wire for the power switch has come loose.

What is it worth?

Honestly, it depends on the make (g1, g2, g3) and configuration (how many processors, amount of memory, how many disks, type of RAID card, redundant power and if it woks) I remember these machines were pretty bulletproof. Find out the config for each, then you can make a fair comparison using ebay.

ML530 Startup

Check your Hardware configuration.  This usually happens when you tell the system BIOS that you have for example, a second floppy or Hard Drive, when you do not.  So it stops and asks you what to do next.

Hope that helps.

Adding a network card in compaq ML530

If you have the tower model. Swing open the front bezel left to right. Then lift up to remove it. Chap 3 of your manual. Using a #15 Torqx allen wrench provided on the back of the unit remove the cover plate screws to gain access (Chap 2 of your manual). The rest should be simple.
