Question about Toshiba Satellite M35X-S311 Notebook

NON DETECTION OF HARD DRIVE

I bought a used Toshiba satellite m35x-s311. While loading windows xp on the hard drive a stop error occurred. I removed the hard drive and put it in another system and it loaded xp without problem. Since then, I have tried at least 15 different hard drives on the Toshiba but it can not detect any of them including new ones. It keeps saying no hard drive. Do I have a bad motherboard?

Thanks

Ify

If you tried several hard working drives on this unit. Then I would say that you have a motherboard problem. Check the pins on the hard drive connect on the motherboard. If they are ok. then it is MLB.

I just responded to this. But I would also suggest that you check the memory on the laptop. It may be causing the Stop errors.

DC-IN port is broken and I am looking for a USB power source so I can power up machine and download pictures from hard drive to another external drive.

You cannot power up your computer from a USB port. You can remove the hard drive and use a USB hard drive adapter to hook up a CD or hard drive and have it read by another computer.

It is taking forever to use the recovery DVD to intall programs an a brand new Western Digital Scorpio 250 GB hard drive I bought for my Toshiba M35X-S114. BIOS doesn't detect the hard drive which is...

If it's a 250GB, the recovery DVD needs to format this drive (insofar as I know, Toshiba's recovery disks never uses quick format) - so .... yeah! It'll take a couple of hours just to prep the hard drive before the actual recovery imaging begins, and that's assuming that the hard drive formatted without errors.

If the hard drive has errors (bad sectors), it really could stretch out the total time. I've done a recovery on a hard drive that contained 100MB worth of bad sectors and it took an entire two days to put an image on it. Why'd I do it? I justed wanted to know how long it was gonna take...

MAKES A CLICKING NOISE UPON START UP BUT WONT START UP .SAYS DISK ERROR.

Disk error hints that you are missing OS (Operating System) such as Windows. Which can be caused by several reasons: defective HD controller, defective hard drive, damaged partition, corrupt MBR, etc.

The clicking noise is an indication, your hard drive is trying to spin the motor to either spin the drive cylinder or to move the head. In can be normal or it can be damaged.

Try booting from Windows CD/DVD or Hiren, then try to access the drive. If you are unable to access the drive after booting from CD/DVD, then try to format it. And if still unsuccessful, then you have defective hard drive and will need to be replaced.

I have a Toshiba Satellite M35X-S114 that when I power up it reads "A disk read error occurred". When I ctrl-alt-del I can get to a PhoenixBIOS screen, but don't know what to do there. Has my hard drive...

You can try to either repair windows or the best option is to reinstall everything back on the System.

And if does not help. Please get ur Hard drive checked.

DVD drive on Toshiba Satellite M35X-S311 not working

Ooops! Hate it when I delete necessary stuff !!! Go into the device manager and uninstall the optical drive (cd/dvd drive), then reboot. It should find the drive and reinstall it. If it doesn't, then do a hardware search from the device manager. If it still doesn't find it, then do a system restore to a point before deleting the files.
