It might be that Google are blocking IE6- they got hacked recently and it was apparently traced to people using IE6 in Google that were hacked through one or several security holes of the many in IE6.
If upgrading isn't an option, how about a different browser? There's lots of free ones to choose from, and there's no rule that says you can't run as many browsers as you like. Opera (my personal choice); Firefox; Chrome. There's lots.

Google chrome, Opera, Firefox should work on Windows 7, but you can try to making a shortcut (or if you have one already - right click it, hit properties, and go to the tab 'Compatibility'- then choose Windows XP SP3 or Windows Vista) and then see if it works or not, please reply back to tell me if it worked or not.
