The wireless lan on hp pavilion media center pc is getting a low signal one bar out of five. How do I determine if its the antenna or the 802.11 card that is faulty?

How far does the signal have to travel in order to get to your HP? Also, through what does it have to travel?

Try moving your hp if it isnt to much of a hassle.

The real questions are as follows:

    1. How far is the PC from the wireless source?
    2. What kind of construction is between the wireless source and the PC(ie sheetrock, brick, wood, steel)?
3 Also are the wireless router and card compatible (ie is the router a wirless B and your card a wireless G)?

    4. Were you previously getting a better signal? if so what has changed since you are now getting a lower signal.

Might consider getting a signal booster

Move either the router or the pc around. If this is a personal wireless you can buy or make antenna extenders to increase the range. You can also try a different firmware like dd-wrt which allows for greater control of the wireless.

Can I install pci-e X 16 2.1 video card onto my HP Pavilion Media Center m8400f PC

Its a slot distribution both 2.0 and 2.1. 2.1 is a bit faster as it leads with version. You can install any VGA card that supports it but keep it in your mind that more heavy vga card will require more power. So, you power supply should be heavy and should bear more power for your card as well as your system.
Sometimes, it require to change the power supply as well.
best of luck!

To my HP Pavilion Media Center A1430N, I lost ALL video signal

Hi:
One quick thing to check is to see if your Video card is fully seated down in the motherboard? Sometimes they can pop up a bit, and you lose your output.
If that doesnt help, you could remove your memory, one stick at a time, to see if that helps. This could be the cause if you added memory from the old computer.

I am using 802.11b/g wireless lan. my signal

Hi,

Increasing signal may increase speed, but getting closer to the router would yeild the same result iif that is going to work. You would do it by going to the management page for your router, and adjusting the "antenna" or "signal" strength to maximum.

On a linksys the default ip for that page is 192.168.1.1, on other routhers you can look it up in the paperwork or on the manufacturers website.

Hope this helps!!
