Question about Gateway GM5442 PC Desktop

Windows has encountered a hard disk drive problem

I have a Gateway GM5442 Vista Home Premium w/tv tuner. I keep receiving a "Windows has encounter a hard disk drive problem". I ran a GWScan and talked to a online Gateway tech who said, because my warranty expired 1 1/2 months ago , he couldnt replace it but that it needed replace. The drive was replaced a month after I bought it , so was surprised that it need replacing again.

Can still watch tv on it and use it , I just get that error message every few minutes. I have backup up my files to a disk, have tried re-intall with Gateway Recovery disk that I purchased after the first drive died. So I am assuming that I need to buy another hard drive.

I do alot of recording on with my tv tuner so I saw a tb hard drive for about $99 but wanted to make sure I purchased the right drive. I am not a expert but I have installed a cd burner, tv tuner, wireless card, so I think I can remove and install a hard drive.

This is my pc info

GM 5442 Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit operting system, intel(r) Core(TM)2 CPU 4400 @ 2.00GHz 2.00 GHZ 2.00 GB

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883113024 this is where I purchase it from a 14 months ago.

Any chance I might have loosen something to make the drive malfunction when reinstalling my wireless card the other day ?

You can get a 1 terabyte sata hard drive from Newegg for 99 bucks. For that price why play with a failing drive. If you get one I will help you set it up with out the Gateway ****. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136151

Dear helpdesk, I am having a problem with my Microsoft Vista Home Premium OS, the problem I encounter is rebooting continuously without logging into my user account log on. It also say, start up repair...

This message is telling you that the hard disk windows is on is corrupted beyond window's ability to fix it. While it is very slightly possible that formatting the disk and performing a totally fresh install may take care of the problem temporarily, it is a sure sign that if the hard disk is not totally dead already, it is heading that way now. Even if things appear to run perfectly fine after formatting to do a fresh install it's only a matter of time before it dies again. The best solution would be to replace the hard drive entirely. Good news is that of all the parts of your system that could have died, the hard drive is far from the most expensive, and considering the age of the system, even a cheap drive should be a step up in size from what you had previously.

I have Gateway T-Series W350A Windows Vista Home Premium Japanese model. I would like to increase hard disk space for Windows 7. Can I uprade the hard disk?

Yes you can upgrade the hard drive.

You just need to pull it out and find if it is a SATA or an IDE

SATA has slots and IDE has pins.

Error 0xc00000e9, and vista no genuine?

That has happened because the files that have been used for the Themes are NOT Microsoft files. Also they are not Digitally Signed as "good" by MS either. This is not really a fault just an indication. What I would do is do a system restore back to a time when PC was A OK.
Startup PC, press F8 at instant of turn on... choose Safe Mode. when you are asked if you want safe desktop or system restore choose restore, when you get to the restore menu, choose a date BEFORE you had problems, in any event, there may only be one or two to choose from. Just follow the instructions and you should be back to working with all that behind you.

Just bought a new DVD burner, its a LG Super Multi DVD ReWriter 22x (Gh22LS40) I also had to buy a sata to IDE converter for my motherboard that has only IDE connectors on it. I can not get Windows 7 to...

ok here's what you need to do.....

first check your dvd burner if its is detected properly on your cmos. If it is located properly try to re install windows 7 again i've encountered this problem before and i just reinstalled windows 7 and it worked like charm.

If the dvd burner is not detected on cmos try to check the jumper settings for both hard disk and dvd burner one orf the other should not be on the same setting ex. if your disk drive is on master you should set the dvd on slave and vice versa. then redo the first step. hope this helps

i think your tv tuner's driver has a conflict with windows vista, try to install it at different computer with a lower version of windows, if the problem still exist maybe your tv tuner's chip is defective.
