SOURCE: Hitachi DV-PF33U DVD Player / VCR Combo

It sounds like the sensor to tell the microcontroller that the tape is moving is not working. If that is so, the VCR would probably do the same thing in FF or Rewind. If you end up taking this unit into a repair shop, have them check the DVD's software version (it should be 1.250) If below that number, have them upgrade that as well. You can check the version yourself by pressing 1,2,3,4 and then "display" on the remote while the unit is on and no disc in DVD. After noting the version, just hit "power" on the remote to exit this mode.

I put a vhs tape in an the vcr turns off by it self a green light keeps flashing by where it says cst in. I have a Hitachi DVD/VCR COMBO DV-PF2U. I also can not get the tape out

Unplug the power supply for thirty seconds and plug back in, this will reset the processor and might eject the tape. If this fails the next step is remove the top of the combo unit this will give access to the vcr tape, if the tape is spewed in the machine and wrapped around the video head and other mechanical parts use scissors to cut the tape and carefully removing the particles, press power to eject the tape for normal operation. However! if the vcr tape is okay, there may be a loading problem, broken drive belt, bad idler assembly to name a few, this is where a technician will be needed but may not justify cost.

I purchased a second Sony RDR-VX525 Video Cassette Recorder/DVD Recorder for our bedroom to replace a failing Zenith VCR recorder/player. I began using the Sony VHS/DVD recorder to transfer our movies...

This is a known issue that happens with these players

To fix the Sony remote dvd-1 dvd-2 dvd-3 issue, take the remote for that recorder into another room or unplug the dvd recorder a moment. Then hold down the enter key and the number of the mode its stuck in ie if its stuck in dvd-1 mode hold down the enter key and then the 1 key. hold both buttons together for 3 seconds. After this go back into the room and try it or if you unplugged the player, then replug it back in. The remote has to be away from the player to work. again

here is an example

<stuck in dvd-1mode> get away from player different room so it can not sence remote. Hold down enter and 1 button for 3 seconds and then try it
if its stuck in dvd-2 mode dold down enter and the number 2 button together for 3 secondsd and try it. The idea is you have to be far away from the recorder so it dosent recieve any inputs from the remote while doing this.

Let me know if you are still having problems with this and I would be glad to help you.

thanks

When we turn the power on iit only stays on a few seconds then turns off with the cst.in light flashing.. what does this mean and what can we do to fix it?? tks

I had the same problem. We watched a DVD, and the unit worked fine. We went out for ice cream, came back, and decided to watch a VHS. Instead of taking the VHS, the CST.IN light flashed and the unit cut off after a few seconds. We didn't have a VHS in the unit at the time. After cutting the unit back on several times without success, I looked online for solutions. One person said to hit 'eject' 5 times in a row, but that didn't work for my unit. Someone else said there was a lever inside near the power button that ejected the VHS, so I checked that out next. I washed and dryed my hands well, and used my finger to jiggle the white lever. Then I saw that the tray that the VHS sits on wasn't all the way forward, so I gently pulled and pushed it. I'm not sure which of the two actions worked, but my light is now a steady green and my unit is working fine now. I am so glad because we've had this unit for almost 10 years now, and I really didn't want to have to buy a new one! Good luck!

Can't turn on my go video dvd/vcr player, keeps

Unplug it, press the power button, then plug it in and retry it. If it doesn't work, unplug it, press power, and let it sit a couple days, to try to reset everything. There may be a reset pinhole in the back, unplug it and press the reset button.

VHS won't work

Had the same problem on my JVC vcr/dvd combo unit.
You need to turn off the timer function. I did this by making sure my remote was in the "VHS" mode...turn the swith from TV to the right (found on the remote in the upper left corner...an then hit the "vcr" button. Then point the remote at the VCR unit and hit the No. 4 button (timer turns off). Your unit should not have the red timer displayed and you should be able to play your tapes okay.

Hope this helps.

If a DVD or VHS tape was inserted prior to the error occurring, you won't be able to eject either from that point further. They'll remain stuck inside the unit until you've completed the repair detailed below.

Flashing "1"

It could be a defective loading motor, jammed mechnism or defect in the power supply. Probably cheaper to replace the VCR.
