Question about D-Link DI 514 Wireless Router (DI-514)

2 Answers

My linksys router worked fine for a long time, with three computers hooked in wireless and one by cable. Now, only the cable works. It keeps saying that a cable is not connected, but has said that forever and it worked. I can't seem to reach the three wireless computers.

Have you tried to restart the router?

Can you still 'see' your network on any of the linked wireless computers? (If using Windows XP: Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > click the Wireless icon > click 'View Network Connections' button)

There are a few things you can look at ,log in the router and look at the wireless radio make sure its enable. Are you able to browse to look for available wireless network from your wireless pc?Since you have a hard wire connection its assumed you can go to the internet. Now try unplugging the router and the internet device(modem) for twenty seconds.First plug the modem in make sure all lights come on and in a ready mode.Once this is completed plug the modem in make sure all the lights are in a ready state.See if you can view available network and see your router. If you can not you might have to reset the router to default.BEFORE YOU DO THIS MAKE SURE YOU WRITE DOWN THE SETTINGS ON THE SETUP PAGE AS YOU WILL HAVE TO INPUT THE ONCE THE ROUTER IS DEFAULTED.There is a small pinhole close to the ports use a paper clip to reset.By the way the default password is admin on some routers or passsword on others.
Good luck

GO TO THE CONTROL PANEL AND CLICK NETWORK CONNECTIONS IN EACH OF THE WIRELESS COMPUTERS. SELECT PROPERTIES AND PUT A CHECK MARK IN THE SQUARE THAT SAYS SHOW ICON ON DESKTOP WHEN CONNECTED. IF THE WIRELESS CONNECTION IS NOT SHOWN YOU HAVE A COMPONET ISSUE. FIRST RIGHT CLICK THE WIRELESS ICON AND CLICK REPAIR. IF THAT DOES NOT WORK THEN TURN OFF YOUR BROADBAND MODEM AND YOUR WIRELESS ROUTER. THEN TURN ON YOUR BROADBAND ROUTER AND WAIT FOR ALL THE NORMAL LIGHTS TO COME ON AND THEN TURN ON YOUR WIRELESS ROUTER AND WHEN YOUR LIGHTS ON THAT QUIT BLINKING YOU SHOULD BE BACK IN ACTION.

I have Time Warner Cable for internet and Vontage cable for my phone thru my internet. I'm trying to connect a Linksys router for my wireless laptop. I also have a Netgear switch connected to Time Warner...

If you purchased a Linksys wireless roter then you shoul not need the switch anymore-
Try going directly from your time warner modem into the Interner/WAN port on the router and then plug your desktop computer and the vontage phone system into 2 of the ports on the router. After everything is hooked up you will probably need to power cycle for it all to work correctly.
Please power cycle in this order:

Reboot modem - then Router- then Vontage phone system.

Hope this helps

Sound like you have a bad network card on the PC or the router ports have gone bad.
Have you tried different ports on the router?
The problem could also be in the ethernet cable.
Try another cable and see if that makes any difference.

Wireless router

The problem is the Linksys wireless router is not properly configured. Try downloading the automatic configuration file which can be accessed from the Linksys site for your specific model wireless router.

Hope this helps you.

If you're after the default userR/password to log in to the admin-intaserface on the router it's usually ussername=root and password=admin

If it's the wep-key it's asking for there are software that can fetch this from your computer, but it's probably just as quick and easy to change the wep-key in the router and set up your writeless computers with that key.
