It may be there all the time - but really shows on photos. It's a new problem.

Did you try cleaning the little glass strip where the documents go in? Lift the button panel and wipe the glass with rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs or lens paper if you have it. Mine does this sometimes when dust or white out or little bits of paper get stuck on the glass.
Good luck!

Two faint white horizontal lines

the white ghost lines are down to the charge wire within the toner cartridge being dirty, the only real way forward is to replace the toner cartridge as access to the charge chorona wire is not possible without ruining the cartridge itself

I have the X7170 printer. I keep getting several blank horizontal lines through my text making those particular lines unreadable. It's been doing this for quite some time now. Hopefully...

Most obvious problem is that the ink heads are clogged, you need to run the nozzle clean utility.
If this fails to work (and may not given the time you say it has been doing this), try again. If after this, it shows no improvement, remove the cartridges, and clean the print heads carefully with a proprietary solution of cleaner. I'd moreover discard the old cartridges and replace them

I am scanning a photo. I have translucent lines running horizontal through the picture before i print it.

Documents scanned/copied from the document feeder pass over a thin glass area where scanning occurs. Clean this area if sent faxes, copies or scans have black or white vertical lines.
  1. Lift the document cover to expose the platen glass.

  2. Wipe the ADF scan area (C) with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth moistened with water.

  3. Then wipe with a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth making sure there are no residues left, especially on the platen glass.

  4. Close the document cover and make a copy of a text document to confirm the black line has disappeared.

Printing black horizontal lines below text/on top of pictures

Check the waste recepticle under where the ink cartridges rest in the home position. Over time, ink sprayed into this cup during cleaning cycles builds up to form a small mountain of congealed ink. If this gets too high, it makes contact with the printhead and drags ink across all your prints. If there is a ***** of ink present, scoop it out with a spoon or a popsicle stick.

Dont get it on you, its messy...

Horizontal lines in pictures

If you are using original cartridges then there should not be a problem. The horizontal lines come from the cartridge. Can you pinpoint if it is a color or black line that is missing? My guess is that during the alignment procedure, you are asked to choose a number or letter that corresponds to picture of a the lines that show the best alignment. If you did this correctly, may I ask how many pictures you printed before seeing that line. Is it on the first print or 10th printing? Cuz if it is on the 5th or more full color picture, then the problem is that you you really have the wrong printer. The F380 capacity for printing full color pictures is miniscule. 1 ml per color. So usually after the 3rd color picture, the ink starts to run out. Let me know if this helps.
