Question about HP Office Equipment & Supplies

Open Question

I was sending 4 faxes. #1 went through. #2 stayed on the screen stating: sending #2 fax. It stayed like this for 1 hour. I tried hiting the on buton but nothing would happen. It just stayed the same. Then I pulled the plug from the back of the printer. Waited 2 min and put it back in. It won't start back up. I made sure there was power to the printer. I am really stuck. I looked for a reset button but did not find one. Sure would apprecate some help. Thanks, Jim

SOURCE: HP L7680 All in one will not send faxes from PC S/W interface

After much thrashing, here is the solution to the problem. Somehow the printer drivers lost coordination with the corresponding Windows supporting programs. You would think that reinstalling the printer drivers would fix the problem, AND IT DOES, but there are 3 tricks:

· Uninstall everything associated with this printer with the install disk in the computer (this may really not be necessary, but it worked for me). [This is also the solution when the a window comes up asking for TrayApp to be inserted using a disk—they mean the hp install disk].

· After the un-install, MAKE SURE you ALSO delete the printer using the control panel. This is critical. If this doesn’t happen, the corresponding Windows software is somehow hooked to the wrong thing when the reinstall happens. Then reboot the system.

· Install the new drivers with the printer off, and the USB disconnected from the printer. Reboot the system [not sure the reboot is necessary]. After the computer has booted, connect the USB, and power up the printer. The computer will recognize the printer and put the printer icon in the Control Panel.

It turns out that correcting the driver mis-coordination by BOTH uninstalling the printer drivers and taking the printer out of the control panel, then properly reinstalling solves BOTH the fax problem, and the protection fault problem! Amazing such a little thing can make such a difference!

SOURCE: No dial tone detected

It may be a bad modem on the copier. Plug your phone into the auxillary phone port on the copier and see if you get a dial tone. Also make sure that your cord from the wall is plugged into the line port and not the phone port.

SOURCE: Cannot receive faxes on Canon Pixma MX870, but can send faxes

I was searching for an answer to this to make sure my new MX870 is correctly set to receive faxes. Here's one answer I came across:

First set Tel-Priority, turn off incoming ring, turn on manual/auto switch, then check how many seconds it takes for your answering machine to come on, and set it a couple of seconds after that. This should do the trick.

I am looking for Atlantis fax number please a number that work

Hello,

I am assuming you are attempting to contact Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas. You can send them a fax be doing the following.

Call 1-954-809-2332

Now here's the tricky part. When the other end picks up, the voice mail states you must press 2 to leave a fax. Once you press 2, you will receive the standard fax negotiation signal and can hit transmit/send on your fax machine.

If you can't do this on your fax, usually you can place the phone number in your fax followed by 3 or 4 commas the the number 2. This permits the fax to delay pressing 2. You may have to use more or less commas to get the timing down.

In order to find the solution to this issue, you need the fax number for another fax machine that is operating correctly with which to send and receive faxes. After trying each of the following solutions, try to send or receive a fax from this other fax machine to test if the issue has been resolved with your HP fax product. The other fax can be in the same building, on another telephone line, or at another location with someone who can assist. It can also be helpful to call the person or company that is sending the fax. That party can offer information about how that fax machine behaves when sending a fax. This information can be valuable in determining the nature of the issue.
There are several possible solutions to this issue. Start with the first solution and then continue with the other solutions in the order presented until the issue is resolved. When the issue is resolved, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.
Solution one: Run a fax diagnostic test
Run a fax diagnostic test to make sure that the HP fax product is set up correctly.
Load letter or A4 unused plain white paper into the input tray.
on the product control panel, press the setup button ( ).
Use the down arrow key ( ) to select Tools and then press the OK button ( ).
on the Tools menu, use the down arrow key ( ) to select Run Fax Test and then press the OK button ( ).
Review the results of the test.
If the result of the fax diagnostic test is All Pass ,
Reinitialize the fax
1. With the HP fax product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the HP fax product and from the electrical outlet.
2. Connect one end of the telephone cord to the telephone jack and then connect the other end of the cord to the port labeled 1-Line on the back of the HP fax product.
3. Reconnect the power cord to the back of the HP fax product and then reconnect the power cord to the electrical outlet.
4. After the HP fax product reaches a ready state, try to send and receive a fax again.

If this works GREAT!, if not let me know....JCE
