Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

My emachine is still fairly new but I have never been able to get any sound I'm pretty sure it is plugged in to the right port or usb. What do I need to download, to get sound? I don't understand any of this. Does my computer come with a mixer & sound device? What needs to happen? confused & frustrated! ugh!

Hello, didn't get your name but thats o.k. My emachine came with a disc but I put it in & it doesn't have info. about sound or sound driver. Sorry I'm pretty dumb about these things but, I learn new things all of the time. You said if I didn't have a disc, give you my Model #, it's: w3622 & s/no. is: xgm7B 300 04506. It's a intel emachine. The disc that it came with, says, it erases all data & files from the hard drive. what ever that means. I hope you can give me the right info. to download the right sound driver. I hope that's all I need to do. If that isn't enough, give me instructions to continue on what I need to do next. Thanks Yevonne T.

If it was a New E-Machine that you purchased from a Store, then it should of come with a Disc. This Disc wiould contain the Sound Drivers neccessary to get your sound card up and running.
If you did not get a Disc, then you will need to find out exactly what Model E-Machine PC it is that you have. Once you tell me this info, then I can atleast point you in the right direction of downloading the correct sound drivers for the specific model of your E-Machine.

Keyboard stopped working

http://www.ascendtech.us/emachines-kb-0705-ps-2-keyboard-black_i_kbdemkb0705bps2.aspx

Things I see here.
1) The second Keyboard you plugged wasn't any good either.

2) The PS/2 port for your keyboard on your motherboard, isn't any good anymore.
Computer off, plug it into the Mouse PS/2 port, and use a USB mouse.
BIOS will reset the I/O address for that PS/2 port, and set it for the Keyboard, when the computer is turned back on.

You may have to;
A) Turn the computer off
B) Unplug from power.

C) Press the Power On button in, and hold it in for a count of 10 seconds. Let go of the Power On button. Do this same procedure two more times.

What you are doing is draining residual power, clearing CMOS Error Codes, and resetting BIOS back to the factory default settings.

Keyboard plugged in, USB mouse plugged in, plug the computer back into power. WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on.

Still no?
Motherboard replacement.

You didn't unplug the old Keyboard, WITH the computer on, and plug the new Keyboard in, did you? It isn't a hot-swap device. The computer must be off when unplugging a mouse, or keyboard.

I purchased an emachines a few years ago but continued to use the keyboard that I was familiar with. It is now worn. I have installed the new emachines keyboard and nothing happens...no lights come...

Did the old keyboard plug into a PS2 keyboard socket (round purple connector) or into a USB port (flat rectangular connector)? Similarly, what type of connector is the new keyboard?
If it is the round PS2 connector you may have connected into the green PS2 mouse socket instead of the purple keyboard socket. Although the sockets are similar, they work differently.
If it is USB, then try moving it to a different USB port.
Try the keyboard on another PC.
If you cannot get it to work then replacement keyboards are very cheap.

Hi

Thank you for your query

The sound issue could be down to several issues

Please try the following

1) Ensure that the speakers are plugged into the right port the port at the back of the Pc will be a light green colour and on closer inspection will have this symbol >))

2) If it is in the right port click on the following Start>Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices. In here ensure that the volume is not muted

I believe 1 of these 2 should cure the problem

If this has been useful please leave positive feedback/vote/testimonial - Thank you again

The emachine model KAWE0 is with operating system windows xp sp1 doesnot recognise any usb device.

Good day sir, hi, usually its one or two ports that does not recorgnise a usb device, but if all ports does not recognise the usb device, check the CMOS setup. check this out;
  • one or two ports does not recognise the usb device, this is a local fault, try to check the CMOS setup, this could also be the port itself is the faulty one having loose connection.
  • all ports does not recognise the usb device, this is a system fault, check again the CMOS setup if the USB port is enabled, check the USB device itself also. to make sure use another pc to test the usb device.
A computer virus can also cause the usb port to malfunction, run an anti virus software, if possible you can reinstall the XP and test the USB port afterward.

If all else fails, you can buy a USB card and plug it on the expansion slot on your PC.

Emachines 180 desktop sound problems

Plug in ONLY the regular wired speakers and ONLY to the green port on the back.

Make sure they are powered up and the volume is about half way.

Ok now you need to call up ether the sound card application or preferably the windows volume control from the bottom toolbar.

Click Open Volume Control.

A box with sliders in should appear. make sure that volume control, wave, sw synth, aux, cd player, line in
are all about half way and that none of them have ticks in the box at the bottom.

If any of those are missing click options then properties from the top left and put a tick besides any that were missing (nothing else)
Now close the slider box.

Put a normal music cd in your cd/dvd player on the computer and set it to play with windows media player.
You should now have sound out of the speakers.

Double check that EVERYTHING is ok.
If there is still no sound check the control panle for any hardware issues and rectify those

Can an eMachine computer be configured for wireless use?

You would need to purchase a wireless card. The card will come with the software you need or you can use Windows to configure.

Try the D-Link DWL-G510 or similar.
