Question about Watches

1 Answer

Not a problem but a question...might be a stupid one too. I just bought a new Bulova self winding BVA100 series watch. The instructions say to wind 6 times before using. I can understand why but the manual doesn't say anything about which direction to wind (I would guess the standard clockwise) but in the interest of not damaging the watch could use a better answer. Second part, how much to wind...will it stop or click when it is enough?

Your guess is right- watch is winding clockwise only. If you wind it anti-clockwise, the clutch weel gets disengaged and watch do not wind, so, you can do that as long as you like- nothing will happen and no harm to watch will be done.
6 times mean the movement of your thumb and forefinger with watch crown between them for 6 consecutive times. 2 times is as good as well.
And there will be no any clicks or sounds as the mainspring of watch is designed not to brake, but ease itself if overwound, so, no need for any alarming sounds.
