Question about True Food VWR Storage Refrigerators with Stainless Steel Doors, 1 to 4°C T72NCVWR w/ FREE UPS

1 Answer

HI: We have a 6-7 yr old TRUE single door, stainless steel fridge. We noticed yesterday ..that at "4" on the temp dial, the fridge is freezing milk in glass gallon jars. We backed the temp down to "2" and the problem persisted. I also noticed that the fan continues to run, although we ahve turned the temp dial to "0". The compressor does kick off when we turn the temp dial to "0", but the fan will not turn off...it runs constantly. Could we be in need of a temp control or fan switch? We are in N GA...are there factory authroized service people here? Thank you! Deb Ridings

With the refrigerator, the fan inside the conditioned space should always run. This is normal for most all commercial refrigerators. Need to check to see if the unit is shutting off the compressor after the conditioned space reaches a good temp, usually 35 degrees. If not, probably a bad thermostat.

SOURCE: i have a 2 door reach in true freezer which is now

If its getting warmer or more humid where you are this is probably a sign of needing to clean your outer coils. Remove the panel covering the compressor and check the condition of the coils. Clean with a nylon brush or wire brush. Or blow out with compressed air.

If the outer coils look OK see if they feel warm up and down the sides. If they don't you may have a defrost problem. If they are warm recheck them in 30 minutes if still warm or warmer and no one has opened the door check the lite inside, and the fan inside (it will only run with door closed). Hit the switch and see if lite goes out and make sure the switch is being activated with the door closed. And check the door seals any vinyl cracked on them they need replacing but can be warped sometimes letting in warm air (usually a sign of frost inside the door or water leaking out but not always).
It could be low on refrigerant or an inefficient compressor but not likely as much as these other items are.

The last thing is the thermometer could be reading wrong or out of calibration. Is it Electronic? Yes - Then its most likely one of the other problem before. If its mechanical (bi-metal) get another thermometer you trust or a new one and check it before you trust it. 2 of them telling you its 5'f then Id believe it other wise one or both of them are wrong.

If the cooler has power, the condesor fan (bottom) and evaporator fan (top) are spinning put your hand on the compressor. Do you feel a vibration? if so, you probably have a refrigerant leak. If not (if its clicking or nothing at all) its a compressor issue.

SOURCE: my true back bar cooler dosent cool it is not iceing over

If you can gain access to the compressor, you will see 2 copper lines going to the compressor. One is smaller than the other. VERY CAREFULLY lightly touch the smaller line while the unit is running. If the compressor is running, that line will be extremely hot.
Start there.
Let me know if I can be of further help.

MY 9 YR OLD FRIDGE IS FREEZING MILK, JUICE AND ALL LIQUIDS IN THE MAIN COMPARTMENT BUT NOT NECESSARILY ON THE DOORS

you gotta send model number, there are different things that can cause this,if the freezer is on top,the cold air from the freezer gets blown into the fridge in the center of the top shelf so if any food is near this it will freeze if the air isn't monitored, check the settings first,it could be set to high, there's a cold control or thermostat that monitors how much air comes into the fridge and when it reaches a certain temp it shuts off but it sounds like your having a problem with it,also on some fridges they have a damper that can mess up,there's a door on it that doesn't close and the cold air just keeps coming into the fridge and things start freezing up

How to check everything
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

Freezer/fridge fluctuates freezing/cooling

Yes, that is one problem.  The refrigerant needs to remove the excess heat through the condenser coils.  If the air flow is blocked, it will do those symptoms you described.
