Cannon 1120C Fusing Problem

Hi,

I have a problem with this unit not fusing properly. The issue is on the right side from center out toward the right edge of the paper. I just installed a new hot and pressure roller, new oil felt and both cleaning webs. The toner will rub off the paper as it didn't get hot enough. To make things worse it is not on all of the copies. If I run 10 at least 2 or 3 of them will be ok. The rest of them the toner will come off of and you can see it on the back of the copies that came out before them. It is almost like the rollers aren't perfectly round. They are cannon rollers. I have adjusted the nip width and that doesn't change anything. The nip width pattern doesn't look like the picture that the service manual shows either. Instead of a concave pattern it is the same width across the paper from edge to edge. Can someone tell me what might cause the problem? I appreciate any help.

Thank you for your response. I will check the paper settings to see where they are at.

Thank you for the response. I will check the paper settings. I would ask about the nip width setting. I don't know what you mean when you say to make sure the front and rear settings match. I am only aware of the two allen head screws on the left and right sides that I can adjust the pressure with. The manual doesn't say or show anything other than these two screws.

Make sure your print and copy settings are set for heavy paper. the most optimum paper I have found for this machine is 24lb. If you already have settings for thick paper and still get the same results try increasing NIP presure by 1mm at a time and test. Just make sure the front and rear settings match.

By front and rear I mean the allen screw toward the rear of the machine and the allen screw towards the front of the machine. You are adjusting the ones I am speaking of. Remember to add only 1 turn to the screws at a time and do the NIP adj. Check the width of the thin gloss area at front and rear and confirm that you have only increased pressure by 1mm at a time.

How do I fix error code sc 548?

SC548: Fusing unit installation error -

The machine cannot detect the fusing unit when the front cover and right cover are closed.

Possible causes:
Fusing unit is not installed
Poor fusing unit connection

Check the 2 sensors on the left hand side of the copier (as you look at where the fuser is located). These get knocked & moved out of position. SC 548 usually happens when a paper jam occurs and user does not properly fit the fuser back in place

The fuser may also not be fiitted properly due to some foreign object in between fusing belt and the sensor

From the panel, enter SP 5810 (SC code reset), select "Execute", select "close", exit SP mode then turn main power switch off, wait 30 seconds, the turn it back on.

To enter SP mode, press the yellow C button press 1 0 7 on numeric keypad and then hold down the orange C button. from the menu select copier SP then type in 5801 and press # select execute then power off and back on. Your machine should now be working.

Hope this helps.

Hi. we have a Sharp AL-1631 copier. It recently has been making a fairly loud + fast clicking sound upon startup and usually wrinkles up the first page through. It seems like the white plastic spring...

Wrinking usually is caused by the fusing unit. This is the part that gets hot and "fuses" the toner onto the page. I doubt that the cartridges are the issue. If you were getting binding or gears popping in the cartridge then your copy quality would be severely affected. Fuser drive gear failure is common on these models. Also if the noise is inconsistent then your right side mounting screw may be loose. Look at the fuser assembly behind the right side door. It is black in color and has the little green tab on the lever that has all the teeth on it. Looks like this:

3a5c871.jpg
Once you have the fusing unit located then look on either side of the unit. There is 1 screw on each side. Make sure they are tight. Especially the right side as that is where the drive comes from and is under the most pressure. If the noise happens all the time then you may have a broken or damaged drive gear on the fusing unit (upper fusing roller drive gear) or the small gear on the machine that drives the fusing unit. You can remove the right side screw and pull the fuser out enough to look at the gears.
Good luck and thank you for using Fixya.

Error codes SC548 ricoh mpc3500, how can you solve?

The error means - Fusing unit rotation error.
Check if the fusing unit(right door{hot unit}) ,if it is rotating properly.
There could also be a sensor on the frame or the machine which senses the fusing unit rotation,(the sensor sometimes comes off)(remove the fusing unit and check where the fusing unit is seated).
Also try cleaning the sensor with a blower or brush.
