Hi there,

1) switch the computer off completely from the power supply for 2mins

2) Take the battery out and connect the power supply to the mains and trun the computer on. If it turns on than try it with the battery insterted.

3) If the battery is insterted and the mains power cord is connected and the system won;t turn on than the battery is at fault.

Please let me know what happens.

regards,

Philip

Might be stuck in hibernation. Pull the battery and ac power for about 1 hour. Replace and try to boot. If fails, pull the battery and try to boot just off ac power.

Telecom r100 battery

It could be one of these three things.
1. Bad port. Often in laptops these ports become loose.
2. Bad battery.
3. Bad charger.

Borrowing either a universal power charger, or the charger from someone with a similar laptop, can eliminate some of the possibilities unless it is indeed your charging port.

If after plugging it in, the battery charges you know you had a bad charger. If the battery fails to charge, you know its time for a new battery. Again this only if the port itself is not bad.

Universal chargers can be expensive. You can find batteries and chargers on Ebay for a decent price.

What is the exact model of the unit? How long ago was it purchased? If it is under warranty you may want to go that route, or have the unit serviced by a qualified technician in your area. If you give me your location I can assist you in finding one.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,

You need to do a chkdsk on this and see what comes up with that. This will check all of the partitions. It may be that the drive is bad. On start up you can hit f10 and perform a disc scan as well.

I have a compaq computer that works great for 1 hour the shuts do

Is it shuting down? Or just instantly going off.

If it is shutting down, adjust the power settings.
  • Control Panel
  • Power Options
  • Make sure the scheme you want is selected. For a desktop it should be Home/Office or Always on.
  • Make sure that System Standby and Hibernate (if available) are set to the length you want.

Bettter have it checked on the nearest service center if the unit is still under warranty. There might be a problem with your batteries based on our description (very hot).

Dead Dell

It is likely the power supply has suffered damage, or has just plain failed. Dell did have problems with certain power supplies in models such as the GX270, probably others too.

Anyway, if you have a voltmeter, you can check for the presence of voltages. Modern computer power supplies have a standby and main sections. I'd guess the standby portion is dead, and if so, your computer won't turn on at all. Here is a site listing the pinout & voltage spec for a typical ATX power supply: http://pinouts.ru/Power/atxpower_pinout.shtml

Note the standby line- again, this voltage will be present anytime the computer is plugged in. The main section of the power supply comes on when the power button is pressed.

If you tech savvy, you could try repairing the power supply if not toasted severely. Otherwise, a standard universal replacement might fit the bill, or just call Dell for an exact unit.

If the fan was not functioning - or blocked - it could have caused the processor to fail but not the drive. Try disconnecting the battery and the ac charger - then reconnect just the charger and try again - that is a hard reset. Is the laptop showing lights or fan noise or is it just completely dead?

Please rate my assistance accordingly.............
