Will 800MHz P4 3GHz chip work on a Motherboard w/400MHz Bus Speed

I want to replace my 2.6 ghz pentium 4 with a 3 ghz pentium 4 with an 800 MHz Bus Speed. My motherboard is a P4G533 (Echo). The specs on the HP website say it has a Proc. Front Side Bus Freq. of 400 MHz. Will the 3GHz pentium work on the P4G533?

You can't make the Intel 845GL chipset support a processor with an 800MHz FSB.
BIOS update or not, the voltage range will be too low. Therefore the FSB is low. Changing just the Multiplier will not do the trick either.

(BIOS Setup, Advanced Chipset Setup. Doubt the options of changing the FSB, and/or Voltage, and/or Multiplier, is available with that BIOS program))

Note your 3.0GHz processor is operating at 1.5GHz?

Max FSB supported is 400MHz, and your Model 530 needs 800MHz? (For max operation)

So it is first up to the Northbridge chip, of the motherboard chipset, whether it will support a certain processor, THEN if a BIOS update will help.

Sorry, the GX260 can not support a intel core duo. The processor sockets do not match the motherboard.

Also, it can handle any pentium 4 processor that uses an 800MHz bus speed, because the highest bus speed that the GX260 motherboard supports is 533 MHz. The fastest processor available for the GX260 is 2.6 GHz.

You checked in the right place as far as looking in the BIOS, however, memory and CPU sockets do not necessarily have the same buss speed. My FSB runs at 1066Mhz and my RAM at 800Mhz, it all depends on what type of RAM you buy as to the bus speed. You can up the bus speed on your RAM if you wish to reduce bottle-necking, but I've only done that a few times. In order to adjust anything, you must set the settings to manual. Be careful when you change this stuff around though, voltages must also be adjusted accordingly.

The motherboard chipset of the Dell Dimension 2300 Desktop PC, will not support a processor with an 800MHz Front Side Bus frequency rate.

Only Intel Pentium 4's that use a Socket 478, 1.75 Volts, and a maximum of a 400MHz FSB.

The Intel Pentium 4 HT 3.0GHz processor has an 800MHz FSB, (As you have already stated), and uses 1.475 to 1.55 Volts.

The motherboard chipset for that Dell Dimension 2300, is an Intel 845GL.

Most major manufactures use motherboard designed to their specs and upgrades to the processor are limited. You can use software such as Belarc Advisor, to determine what motherboard you have and then you can search the net to determine what processors are compatible with it.

in the BIOS-setup, normally you can adapt the bus speed. as it's running at about 400mhz, i suppose it's set to auto. within the advanced system settings, you should be able to set the bus config to manual and then you can choose the appropriate bus speed below.

The chips to which you refer are incompatible with respect to the socket used for each as well as the fact that Core duo and Pentium 4 1.5 GHz chips are from separate generations, the latter having been obsolescent since 2003.
