IBM thinkpad problem

I can't get my computer to start in the safe mode. I have tried everything that you have suggested and hitting the f8 button takes me right back to the original problem. where it was saying that windows can't open because the file system32 ntoskrnl.exe. is either missing or corrupted. what do I do about this. once I can get into the computer I think I can put the file you gave me in there.
thanks
Kayla

Won't boot in safe mode

Starting an IBM Thinkpad T43 in safe mode allows you to troubleshoot technical issues that you otherwise couldn't. Often when a system has a virus or other type of malicious program, safe mode is the only way to locate and delete the problem. In safe mode, only the computer's essential programs are enabled, and only the files necessary to running the system are in use. Learn how to start an IBM Thinkpad T43 in safe mode using a few fairly easy steps.

1.Close all programs and restart the IBM Thinkpad T43.

2.Press "F8" repeatedly after the IBM logo appears, but before the operating system logo appears. If the "F8" key doesn't work, restart the computer and try pressing the "F11" key repeatedly.

3.Press the "down arrow" key to select "Safe Mode."

4.Press the "Enter" key. The computer will boot up in safe mode.

I have an IBM T41 type 2378 Windows XP Professional. I have been using and external monitor as the screen does not work. A while back I wanted to reformat my C drive and installed a windows XP disk I...

I would try to start it up in safe mode. This can tell you whether it's a display (physical) issue, or a driver (software) issue. You can do this by hitting the F8 button as soon as you start the computer and it brings up a prompt. At the Advanced system prompt, choose "Safe Mode with Networking" and see if it works then. If it does, I would suggest you undo an changes in the drivers that you made before.

Ibm thinkpad t30 how to get it to enter safe mode

Turn the computer off Turn the computer on Immediately hit F8 several times a second until a black and white menu appears, if you get the windows splash, you missed it. Start over Select which way you want windows to start in safe mode You will get a lot of white messages on a black screen You will then get a message that says proceed to safe mode or do a system restore to recover Proceed to safe mode.
If this answers your question, I'd appreciate 4 thumbs up as I do this for fun.

I'm locked out of my laptop it asks for a password but I never gave it one, happened after a storm haven't been able to use it since

Restart the laptop, hit F8 repeatadly to start in safe mode. This will bypass XP's login screen. You can then manipulate the password in the control panel. Also, you can change it by going to command prompt, type: net user * (your username) then whatever password you want.

A few ways to try and eliminate.
Upon startup F8 for safe mode: Last Know Configuraton

Hit F8 for safe mode. Go into accessories>system tools>system restore
Doesn't work then: need Windows CD setup. Let it run and hit R for Recovery Console. At the DOS prompt type FIXMBR or FIXBOOT.

Problem

If you can boot to safe mode, try doing a restore.

When you turn on the system, just past the POST (before windows loads), hit the F8 key to get the menu between normal boot and safe mode.

When prompted, select SAFE MODE. Don't select safe mode with command prompt, or with networking. Just SAFE MODE.

Use the arrow keys to select SAFE MODE. If you need to log in, do so and proceed to launch windows.

Windows should launch in Safe mode. If it does, proceed to click on START, ALL PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, SYSTEM TOOLS, SYSTEM RESTORE.

Select RESTORE MY COMPUTER TO AN EARLIER TIME. Click on NEXT. If you can, select a BOLD date preferably before your issue. Click NEXT. System will load some files, reboot and reload.

If you can't get to safe mode, there may be other problems holding your system up. Did you load anything prior to the messages?

I would recommend you to boot your system and safe mode and do a system restore...To open your computer and safe mode hit the F8 button on your keyboad when the computer is booting up..click safe mode..and then once you get to safe mode its going to give you an option to restore your computer to another day..after the restore is finish, you should be able to use the computer without any problems...
