Question about Panasonic Linear ES 8003 W Electric Shaver

1 Answer

Battery only keeps a charge for about 10 seconds

Even after my panasonic electric razor model ES 8003 is fully charged (at least all of the green lights are lit) it will go dead in about 10 seconds. Do I need a new battery?

Sounds like the switch is dirty and turning off ... take a look at this video and see if you need to clean it. Mine would not charge or run until I cleaned the switch contacts.

My model is almost the same as your model ...

    Problem: Model ES7037
CMB - Over the past month the Panasonic shaver would turn on with 3-4 tries, but now will not turn on at all – the on-off switch must be bad after only 7 months of wet use. Before sending in I found this diagram:

Disassembly: Remove bottom Phillips screw & end cap, pop off each plastic side with fingernails (reinstall them from top 1st), remove 4 screws, remove 2 clips, take top off. Remove battery case and the on-off little, white plastic lever fell out. Slide off the white plastic/metal on-off slider & clean contacts with knife … my bottom contact was black & top was clean.

Assembly: Reinstall on-off slider (white plastic with metal contacts) by sliding back in grooves -- hardest part - place the on-off plastic lever on the battery back unit – I tried to put it on the case and could not get it to stay on. Slide the battery pack back in with the plug prongs in the holes in the end being careful not to drop the on-off lever. Test shaver. Stuff battery wires inside case – screw 4 screws and add 2 clips on, then final screw in the end after cap placed on. Easy once I knew how to put the on-off lever on the battery side – that was tricky. Total time was about 1 hour – next time it will be about 15 minutes. Works great! jgg

Could not get the YouTube link above to work so I will paste it below:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9b7lf5hqj...

Use that link to disassemble and clean the switch then put it back together.

All newer Panasonic Wet/Dry Shavers are probably the same.

    Good Luck!

I have a Panasonic ES8023 rechargeable razor and I want to replace the batteries in it. Where can I find replacement batteries?

When my ES8023 razor quit working, I decided to buy and try a Braun Series 3 razor that ultimately I was dissatisfied with. I favor the Panasonic's narrower head. Deciding to replace the Panasonic's batteries, they were very easily removed. Noting they seemed barely larger than AA batteries, I decided to try replacing the OEM Ni-Cd batteries with some NiMH batteries I had. My only real concern was whether the NiMH batteries would charge adequately from the ES8023 charger....they did, which was great news since Ni-Cd batteries are inferior to NiMH.

Adapting the shorter AA NiMH batteries to the shaver was as simple as laying a small hex nut (#10-32 size I think) upon the negative (upper) terminal in the shaver and then inserting the battery. This makes for a tight fit and provides contact for teh negative end of the battery. The positive nub of the battery makes contact to the shaver's positive terminal with no issues.

The original battery has a long pin extending from the positive tip that I think may be to provide a pin that extends through the shaver body for a charging cord to connect to. However, for the induction charger of the ES8023, I didn't think the pin would be needed, and it wasn't. With two NiMH batteries inserted as described and the shaver reassembled, I successfully charged the shaver overnight in the original charger. I believe NiMH batteries typically charge at a higher current draw than NiCd batteries do, so I do expect a longer charging cycle to be required, but I don't anticipate any issues.

I no longer have the owners manual. What does it

According to the manual, the red light comes on while charging when the battery does not yet have enough charge to sustain a 3-5 minute shave. The green light stays on steady while the razor is charging, and blinks when it is fully charged. If your battery life is short, they might need to be changed.
