Assuming the power supply is ok, and the pc is a few years old, it could be a flat cmos battery so check for the disc shaped 3V battery and see if it's flat. Whilst you have done that look for the JBAT1 terminal and put jumper on pins 2-3 for a few seconds then back to 1-2. Look at the capacitors (tube shaped things) for the tops and sides swelling, if so mobo needs replacing. You need also to check the power supply leads to the motherboard and check its connected to mobo ok. Start up pc if it will and set the time and date in standard bios settings.

Iv'e done a bit more seraching on yoor mobo and i have found that most e machines have a poor power supply unit and is common to failure, but the power supply failure also contributed in most cases to a motherboard failure also.

My computer will not turn on

many, not all, psu's will internally tripo after this happens. how to reset:
1 if it has an on/off button turn off for 1 min and turn on.
2 if it has no button but has a 110/220 switch, unplug it then switch to 220 then back to 110 (also this may be 115/230 or even 120/240)
3 if it has neither of these, unplug it for 10 mins, then replug it and start up.
also when you opened the case did you smell anything funny? if so i would say that the mobo and/or cpu are done for. i doubt this tho because you had them on a surge, but it is possible.
1 more thing when you opened the case did you by chance knock a wire loose from the mobo?(motherboard)
after re reading your post i question whether the surge strip is good, because you said it was tripped and yet you had the posu light on. or did you mean a light inside the case of the computer itself?
if none of these suggestions help you please re post with answers to the questions i asked thanx and hope i have helped.

Hi, I have an asus p5gl mobo, my problem is it sometimes dont turn on. I need to unplug the power supply connector to mobo then on it again, some time it will last for 2 days some times 1 day. my power...

Hello Ncp, hi, there are several reasons why this things happen, here are some possibilities, 1. your motherboard is bad or something is making it bad, (are there holes on the back of your casing where a small RAT could fit in, they sometimes pupu on your mobo, so a visiual inspection will reveal it.) 2. beside the motherboard, are there video cards, or expansion card on your mobo, check them also for this rat pupu (rat waste) 3. your power supply is bad, you have no choice but to replace it with a new or good one. Thats it, keep me posted.

EMachine T2824 does not turn on. Power cord/power supply seems O.K.

There are just too many eMachine models to be familiar with every one, however, as a preliminary inspection, remove the side panel, and turn the computer on to see if you see a green "Health" light. This will give you an initial clue as to how to pursue the problem. eMachines have historically had power supply problems. If you do not see a green health light on the motherboard, then your power supply is defective. A power supply supplies various voltages + - 5V, + - 12V ,etc. A power supply can be easily tested by a local shop with the proper test equipment. You might start there if you are a DIY! Short of that, you can purchase a power supply for under $65.00.

Dead mobo e-machine T2824

Hello leeinsc,

The T2824 uses a microATX motherboard, any manufacturer supporting a Celeron (Intel) CPU will be ok - therefore, I would think any motherboard of that size will fit the case. There seems to have been a lot of problems with this model and the mobos. Putting $280+ into an exact replacement wouldn't appeal to me. Especially when $60-80 will get the job done!
You will want to make sure that the rear plate on the case is of standard size to fit the new mobo however.
To cross-reference the current mobo, there should be some stamped markings on the board. Usually they are located (either) around the edge, or near the middle. Cross that using Google - you should easily find a replacement.

Emachines T2824 Dead System

if it is powering off like that it usually means that the mobo is bad, look at the capacitors on the mobo. if any of the tops are raised or corroding, it needs replaced. also if you see any part of the motherboard that is darker or orange, it is from a lot of heat, which means that parts may have gotten too hot and melted.

usually for an emachine, the mobo's are usually more than the unit is worth. best solutiong would be to get ready to invest in another unit

Some power supplies have a microswitch that prevents a turn on while the case is open. Sometimes it's a switch on the case, or a switch linked to the mobo. You can try to defeat that. Also PSU's are made so they won't turn on unless hooked to a mobo. You will have to jump some pins to defeat that. This info is readily found in Google.

Maybe a silly question to ask; but did you connect the processor power lead, as unlike some processors this needs a seperate supply.
