Cannot get printer to accept new tricolour ink cartridge.

I have purchased a tricolour cartridge for my HP photosmart 2575(or maybe it's 2570-both are on the printer) but the display screen tells me it is an incorrect cartridge subsequently the printer refuses to work. I have checked HP's website and the cartridge I purchased is listed as the correct one for both the 2575 and the 2570. I have also contacted the HP help service which frankly didn't. Please help as I now have a very expensive plastic paperweight filled with ink which is rapidly drying and an all i one printer that can only be used in black nd white mode.
