That sounds like a capacitor problem, which a big/heavy CRT can have. It could be fixed, but might be cheaper to put the money towards a new monitor. I haven't seen that problem with an LCD screen.

My monitor turns dark when I power up PC

You may have failing power supply due to bad caps (leaking/bulging tops)
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Screen blacks out, but power light stays green. I can repress the power button and it will come on for a short while

Power supply, replace the caps, 220uf,470uf,680uf. you will see the tops of them are popped out, check the board too see if its turning color from the surface mount transistors that drive the lamps..If its turn an very dark color the parts have been very stressed out..

Viewsonic 21", P817 won't stay on.

Try hooking up a known good working monitor to the computer and see if the monitor turns on and stays on with video.

If it does then you know there is a definite problem with the Sony monitor. Next step would be to open up the monitor and see if you can find any burnt components or any puffy capacitors, instead of a flat top they will have a top that is puffy like its expanded, that means those capacitors are bad. If you run into that, then that means you need to replace those, just make sure you get capacitors with the same UF rating and the voltage can be the same or higher.

You'll need some soldering skills to remove the bad caps and put in the right ones, they can only go in one way cause the dark strip has to match up to the dark strip on the capacitor.

Fuji 17" monitor Stays dark after power on.Power light on.

Connect it to a friend's laptop computer. If it does not work on that computer, it is "dead". If it does work on that computer, your monitor is OK, but your computer has a "video" problem.

MONITOR KEEPS SWITCHING TO STANDBY

Either the power supply is going bad (power light will be orange or off when it goes dark) or the screen itself has the problem (inverter?). If the power button stays green but the screen goes dark, that'll be the problem.

Viewsonic VE175b Monitor Powers Up Doesn't Display Windows OS

Hi; I had the same problem. I know that sometimes devices require you to perform some type of '10-30 second' "hold" of one or some of its buttons in order to 'reset' the device, so to speak. So, having said that, try this:

1) Turn your monitor off (no green light) but leave it plugged in.
2) Leave it off for about 10 seconds.
3) Hold the [2] button on your monitor (the one to the immediate LEFT of your monitor's POWER button).
4) While holding the [2] button, now press and HOLD your POWER button.
5) Wait for your image to appear and STAY onscreen for about 5 seconds, then release both buttons.
6) Your monitor should retain its onscreen image.

Hope this helps! Good Day to all!

In power save mode

The monitor is not receiving signal from the computer. Is the power light on on the computer? If so - press and hold power button on computer until the power light goes off, then press again to restart. If the computer starts and you still have no picture it is most likely a video card or motherboard problem.
