That sounds like a capacitor problem, which a big/heavy CRT can have. It could be fixed, but might be cheaper to put the money towards a new monitor. I haven't seen that problem with an LCD screen.

I connect my desktop pc but monitor is totally dark. Maybe I've inadvertently set the colors off so I need to know how to work out blindly the buttons on monitor to see anything at all

If you disconnect the video cable from the back of the computer, If the monitor stays dark, and no pop up that says no video, check cable or something like that, and the power LED will stay green, if this happens, it is a bad monitor. If you get the pop up message and the LED turns orange, you are getting no video from the pc to the monitor, and pressing buttons will not fix this. It is something in the PC causing the issue. If all cables are good, and connected right.

My desk top monitor want stay on

What do you mean won't stay on? Describe exactly what it is doing? When does it not stay on, when you press the power button to start the computer? You said it does not stay on, so that tells me that it comes on for a while and you are able to see things, right?

My averatec lcd won't stay on

Can you try your monitor on another computer to see if it does this there as well? Usually this happens only when video is not detected coming from the PC. It could be as simple as a short in the monitor cable. If you have it connected to a laptop you'll also want to check you control panel power setting rules and then the screen saver under display.

Monitor flashes on wont stay on. not original

Try un-plugging all cables from monitor then re-connecting. If this doesn't work then it must be to do with the charger issue.

The IPboard part no. BN44-0012A is bad. We had to replace 5 monitors with the same problem. If under warranty call 1-800-Samsung for repair or exchange.
