Re: how do i resolve a sc520 on aficio 1085?
This is a duplex jogger error prob, open up your printer and ensure that the duplex assy is completely fastened onto the machine, any loosed connection can trigger an error, pull and push back the unit duplex once again to reset it, make sure this is sitting correctly and close the machine.
if not there is too much load on the jogger mechanism w/c make it so hard for the unit to initialize, then this will also occur check for any mechanical binding, if not then there is no choice but to change the jogger motor

sc491 on a Ricoh 1085 is a problem with the fan that cools the polygon mirror motor, in the laser unit. The problem might lie with the fan motor itself, or it might be another problem inside the laser unit. You could try replacing the fan (part #A2941965) but that may or may not fix the problem -- and you may not even be able to find a new fan anywhere, since the 1085 is so old. Ricoh stops producing new parts for old machines after a certain number of years.
The laser unit sits under the scanner bed... remove the platen glass and the laser covers and try cleaning the unit out with some compressed air. Then reboot the machine and see if the code clears up.
