There is no usb adapter on this phone, it all has to be done w/ a SD card. So, after I put what music I wanted on the card and put it in my phone, the only way my phone will make it a ringtone is if I copy the file to the phone. There are no directions in the manual for this and I've been fooling around with it for over an hour... it shouldn't be this hard.

Re: Copying music to phone, (from SD card)
Thats right.. some cellphones have this limitation where you cannot set your phone ringtone selecting songs from memory card. You have to copy it to phone memory and then only, your ringtone will set. I know this is very much frustating, but my suggesion is go for phone where this problem doesnt exists.

you need to use a micro sd card reader in either usb configuration or if your computer has a card reader insert the card and copy away.. when you are done remove from the adapter and reinsert into your phone and voila..
according to motorola, this phone has bluetooth and micro SD card slot. if you have computer with bluetooth, then you can pair the computer and phone and simply send music files wirelessly via bluetooth. if you dont have bluetooth, then you can buy a cheap usb bluetooth adapter from ebay and have a bluetooth enabled computer, then follow above step.
if you have SD card slot on your computer then you can get a SD card to micro SD card slot adapter from ebay or elsewhere, where you can simply put music on then card from pc and then transfer the card to the phone.
here is the phone manual.for safety read the whole manual. p.55 for music and p.79 for bluetooth instructions.
If you are trying to play the file then it will be unmounted as it needs to disconnect from the pc to do that you could try copying them in batches if that doesnt work it may be a USB driver fault in which case i would reccomend reinstalling the G1 driver.
the micro SD(smallest) goes into the phone the other 2 are adapters, mini for older PDA's, the largest goes into your PC (usually on newer models), if the pc does not have a slot for the sd, use a usb adapter to transfer music
YES you CAN put music on your phone without USB cable!!! just drag and drop music from your computer to your SD card/adapter(usually F: drive) , click SD card into LG Vu (make sure "connection", in "settings" is set to "mass storage" on phone!
Format the micro SD in the phone, then use the usb secure digital and adapter that came with your phone, in your computer and put the MP3's you want under the "music" sub file. Place the micro SD back in phone and enjoy. If you are afraid of this removal of the micro SD from the phone turn it off before you go out and in with the card.
If you want to put music files from your laptop onto your LG Shine, you can either use a LG USB cable or a Micro SD Card. The Micro SD card will probably need an additional adapter to have it big enough for your Laptop or PC slot. Once the music files are on the Micro SD card, insert the card into your LG Shine and go to My Stuff". Then, select "Audio and ringtones" and select the file on your memory card. Press the "Options" button and select the copy function and paste it into your phone.
