Question about PC Desktops

When I first began to use my Linksys modem my internet connection was relatively fast and efficient. Lately it has become very slow. I bypassed the modem and connected directly to the incoming cable and found that the upload and download speed was many times faster. What could be the problem with my Linksys modem?

Unplug the router, count to 30 slowly and plug it back in. Wait up to a minute and try the 'net again. This fixes up many issues with linksys products and is, sadly, a part of owning them.

You definitely did the right thing to narrow down the problem. Congrats!

Dell XP 200 Dimension ethernet port

Hello.

I'd suggest testing with another computer and the same Ethernet cable to your modem to see if the results are the same and to narrow down which component is the problem.

Was it always slow with this setup or did something change.

Is the Linksys adapter connected via USB ? That would be slower than an internal adapter.

Try updating the Linksys adapter software - Device Manager - rightclick - update driver.

Hope these suggestions help.

The lights of the internal modem, which used to be green, now just keep red/orange.... therefore no more internet... could it be a virus?

Good day sir/maam, the orange led indicates a speed of 10 mbps, which means that either the internet becomes slow or your connected to a hub with 10 mbps. better swap a new modem card, anyway its cheap. or get a DSL.hope this helps.

Dell Dimension DE051:Wireless Internet Problem (Can't Load Sites)

contact Comcast and have them reset your IP address. also have them ping your modem after they reset IP.
Also, see Linksys website for LELA (easylink advisor) to add devices to network. Uses a good bit of memory so don't allow to run automatically at start up.

Modem for dial-up

Well I hate to be the one to break the news but their is no such thing as a fast modem. They are all 56Kbps which is slow....the only fast modem is a DSL modem, but that is outside the computer and it gets hooked up with your phone company or your Internet Service Provider. Check the invoice or packaging slip and see if it says "DSL Modem capability"..if so then you are ok but your ISP has to install it.

Hanging while using internet

It is probably because your internet connection is slow or you lack bandwidth. You have a fast computer and if you've wiped the hard drive and reinstalled windows then its unlikely that it is a windows problem. Also if you're using a modem instead of a dedicated connection they do tend to be rather slow managing only up to 56k per second.

Can Connect to internet via cable modem, but cannot connect from Cable Modem to LinkSys WRT54G router to PC to Internet ?

1. Make sure your cable modem is connected to the Internet port of the router.
2. Your computer should connected to one of the 4 ports at the back of the router.
3. Check the lights that are lit. Make sure the you have power(steady green), Internet, WLAN and Ethernet port light.
4. Press and hold the reset button on the router for 15 seconds.
5. After 15 seconds, release the reset on the router and turn it off.
6. Turn the cable modem off, too.
7. Wait for a minute. Turn the modem ON first. Wait for the lights on the modem to be ready.
8. Turn on the router. Make sure you have good lights on the router.
9. Check for Internet connectivity.

No internet connection, I have connection when Linksys Wrt150N router is bypassed and computer is connected directly to the Verizon DSL modem. How to I obtain internet connection with the router connected....

If you spoke to someone from tier 1 support, you probably won't get much help. Ask for at least tier 2 support if you ever call them back. You may not have a defective router. Have you installed any programs that may have interfered with the router? Have you scanned your pc for viruses? Why don't you have Verizon send you a modem/router combination. That way, you will only have one unit to connect and you will encounter less problems.

Will The LinkSys Router Model No: BEFSR41 Slow Down My New Laptop ?

Nope your computer is independent from the router and the only thing that will influence speed is how fast the router is in relation to your old one and your internet connection.

I have mediacom cable, phone, and internet service. The internet works when I am directly connected to the modem provided by mediacom but I can't get linksys to work.

You need to call your internet serie and give them the Routing Number specific to your Linksys modem. Let me know if this helps.
