Question about Acer AL1715 (Black, Silver) 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

My ACER AL1715 is doing something wierd: when I boot it up, the desktop comes up and another desktop appears about 3/4 of the way down the screen. When I open the Messenger, it wraps around so that part of it is on the right side and the rest is on the left side of the monitor. I don't get any of the buttons that usually appear across the bottom of the screen: Start, etc. Help.

Hey Skone: No, I only have one monitor. And yes, I have tried pressing the auto adjust button and it does nothing. Have you heard of this problem before?

do you usually have two monitors connected?
After window boots up and you have your desktop open, try pressing the auto adjustment button on the monitor which is the far right button with an 'A' printed on it.

It sounds more video card/driver/settings related.

Try setting the resolution to 1024x768 intially. It may help to find the optimal resolution settings for that monitor. Max resolution on it seems to be 1280 x 1024 / 75.0 Hz.

Still seeing double? Try updating your video card drivers.

Still? Try installing the LCD driver. While I've never had to do this, it may be an issue with this model. For XP, select your model here: http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/acerdrivers.cfm

How do I get into safemode on my acer aspire desktop

1 Restart the Acer Aspire netbook by pressing the "power" button on the netbook's keyboard or by pressing the "CTRL," "ALT" and "DEL" keys at the same time. 2 During startup, hold down the "F8" function key immediately when you see the "Acer" splash screen and the option for entering "Setup." 3 Keep pressing the "F8" key until the "Advanced Boot Options" menu appears. If you receive a "keyboard error," restart the Acer Aspire and repeat step 2. 4 Use the arrow keys to navigate to the "Safe Mode" selection on the "Advanced Boot Options" menu. The arrow keys are located on the right-hand side of the Acer Aspire keyboard. 5 Press the "Enter" key to execute the "Safe Mode" selection. The Windows operating system will now start in "Safe Mode" and you can perform a system restore or make needed changes to get your Acer Aspire to boot normally again. The letters and numbers appear to be slightly broken up or pixalated on my screen this has happened recently since having the pc checked and cleaned up.

You either need to set the desktop screen resolution as explained in my guide entitled How to set your Desktop Screen Resolution?

or you need to install the drivers for your Graphics card or chipset if you are using onboard VGA.
Expalined in my guide entitled How to install Graphics Drivers, Nvidia and AMD Radeon!!!

You may need to do both.

Thanking you

Everytime i boot up screen message auto configcan this be stopped

Probably not--it's checking to see if the configuration is correct for your computer. It should disappear quickly. You can't do anything on the computer anyway until the system finishes booting.

Acer AL1715 no lights

We are seeing this same "issue" with this model regularly. If there is no screen and No led/lights, then the power supply has gone out.
It appears on that model there is an external power supply.
Google the model number of the Monitor for replacement parts.

Plug something into the same outlet and verify the outlet is good.

The screen rotated and i dont know how to put it back

right click on your desktop, select properties. the display properties dialog will come up
click on the "settings" tab at the top-right
click on the "advanced" button in the bottom right.

a screen will come up with many different tabs. on one of them there is likely a screen rotation option and you should select standard landscape or something similar. it may take some digging around in there.

Acer Aspire T180

check your removable media disk drives and make sure that you don't have like a jump drive or CD-Rom that the computer doesn't like. If that doesn't work, enter the BIOS setup (usually F2, F12, ESC or something like that....check the bottom of the screen.) and find the Boot Order settings & move hard drive to #1

Acer AL1715 Monitor - screen distortion, discoloration, several times each day

Certain versions of the Acer AL1715 monitor had a problem with the VGA socket. Specifically, the plastic case around the socket was not wide enough. The plastic lip interfered with the plug and so the plug does not seat properly. This causes all sorts of intermittent problems. The version of the AL1715 with the problem with had the UPC code of 0 99802 19889 3. I fixed several of these monitors by shaving off the excess plastic with a Dremel Mototool. A hand file would probably work as well. You have to remove the plastic back to get the clearance to do the job.
