Question about Bose 901 VI Main / Stereo Speaker

Need screw size for Bose 901 Lifestyle speaker to mount to PS6's

Have a pair of like new 901's that originally belonged in a Lifestyle powered system and were normally mounted to the aluminum Lifestyle powered stands. These are the ones with the black shiny piano finish. I need to figure out the size of screw for the 4 holes on the bottom of each cabinet in order to mount these to a pair of Bose PS-6 standard pedestals normally used for regular 901's. The holes in my speakers have a threaded sleeve in them. I am hoping to be able to buy equivalent screws from Lowe's , etc. I realize the mounting holes on the PS-6 will not line up, you have to secure to the edges of the stands with the screws and fairly large washers. Thanks!

Had the same question, e-mailed Bose support and they suggested "# 10 woodscrew, 4.5 mm diameter".

Adding Subs to a Bose 901 system

The Bose system has sound that is unmatched, the 901 with the equalizer is amazing. I have done what you are thinking of doing, the speaker runs 5ohms giving more power to the coils, adding a sub will color the sound and will not give the desired results, the 901 equalizer may be damaged with the modification of the sub, not recommended.

Bose free space 51 speaker pair. 1 speaker stopped working. I disconnected non working speaker and hooked up at the working speaker wire and it still didn't work. don't know how to take it apart to...

In my case the speaker only played the higher frequencies but not the low mid range to base. Most likely your speaker is "blown". Outdoor use is hard on electrical components. The fix is easy. The free space 51 speaker is identical in size to the standard Bose 901 4 1/2" speaker. You can buy a Bose or a good quality knock off (either way they will need to be broken in before yielding the best sound). It is not clear to me whether the original Bose uses a special moisture resistant cone. I treated my replacement with a light coating of silicone spray (for upholstery) carefully protecting the foam surround and cap at the center.

Just unscrew the three screws holding in the plastic grill in front of the speaker (using a nut driver or socket wrench). The speaker will drop out. Be careful with the foam wrap around the wire as it tends to be fragile and greasy. Solder in the new speaker making sure you get the polarity right (although for outside use this is probably irrelevant). I would test the speaker in place before soldering just to make sure. Reassemble and break in the speaker. Again I don\'t know know well the replacement will weather the elements. Keep your finger crossed.

Yes, if they're all on the same 2 amplifier channels.

I've passed your question on to person (camino3x2) who posted a good article on eBay.

If you're registered with eBay you could ask him any other questions.

I have series V's with brushed aluminum side panels. As you probably know, a 901 system also includes a series-matched Active Equalizer which must be used with it.

Hey i just bought a pair of bose 901's and was wondering what system would provide enough power but still cheap and mp3 compatable???

Keeping in mind that the 901's and multichannel recievers won't work unless you use an outboard amp for them, that should open up the choices pretty wide. But your MP3-compatible AVR MUST have front channel pre-outs. Any solid 100 watt x 2channel amp will drive them.

I believe there are two nuts on each post. The first one locks up against the firewall and the second secures the speaker wire against the first nut. Tighten the lower nut snug against the enclosure.

If you have the harmon kardon receiver, check out this reasonably priced system. You can actually find it cheaper than at this website but I have these speakers and, when paired with the Klipsch sub-woofer, it makes movie watching an unbelievable experience.

Best amplifier for bose 901 VI speakers

By all-in-one amplifier that handles the surround I think you mean all-in-one receiver or preamp. Amps are just big dumb muscular power supplies for speakers.

The source control and digital decoding could be handled by a modern AV receiver with multichannel analog outputs for driving separate amps or you could get a digital AV preamplifier/control unit functionally like this Adcom. Prepare for sticker shock.

http://hdtvdreams.com/Adcom-GTP-870HD-7.1-Multi-Channel-Processor/Preamplifier-GTP870HD.aspx

Understand that EACH PAIR of Bose 901's will require its own DEDICATED two channels of amplification AND someplace to jack in its Active Equalizer - between the line level source and the power amp.

Conventional speakers can probably run off the receiver's amplifiers since they don't/can't/must not have the Bose Active EQ in line with them.

Having a single pair of 901's plus a passive subwoofer or two in the same room for accurate 6- or 7.1 surround would require at least four stereo amps or some combination that adds up to 8 channels.

In my own system I have a Pioneer VSX-36TX Receiver (with 5 potential channels of amplification for Left, Right, Center, two Surrounds) doing light duty as the control and routing center but ONLY driving the Center (two Kenwood 777's) and Surround speakers (Bose 301's). I have a Carver 5-channel amp pushing the Bose 901 Front speakers (100Wx2), two dbx Subwoofers (110Wx1) and the Bose 301 Rear Surround speakers (60Wx1).

You could probably get by with a powerful 2-, 3- or 4-channel amplifier to push the 901's and subwoofer(s) as I did. It's the cheapest way out if you get a decent AV receiver. Once you set up the levels and delays the receiver does all the thinking and controlling for you.

Repairing BOSE 901 IV series speakers

The grille will come off if you try to pry it off. Then, unscrew the bad driver. Sort of new ones are sold on E-Bay for not a lot of money. Install the new driver, secure it with screws, and snap the grille back into place.
